Should I take action?

This guy and I have had a few moments over the semester, but he still hasn't asked me for my number. He is a shyer guy, so sometimes he can be quite awkward. There was one time he grabbed my phone and played around with it, but I was an idiot and took it back (I'm pretty sure he wanted to put his number in my phone). Anyway, he always stares and me, compliments me, has hugged me, and he made out with me once when I had been drinking but he was absolutely sober. The night we made out he also held my hand all night and carried me over puddles, shared his food, etc. Since then, I have seen him around more often at school and things are progressing, but I just want to exchange numbers already! Why can't he just do it? Does it seem like he likes me? Should I take action about this number situation?

Jeez, what's so hard about just telling him, "I've been having a really nice time with you and it'd be nice to be able to just reach out and talk to you when you're not around... they make these things which are really quite handy for that! They're small plastic and silicon devices that you can tap with your finger and hold to your ear, but you need a code to get the person you want... not sure what they're called... help me out here would ya?"

Or just the simple, "In case it wasn't obvious when I had my tongue down your throat, I like you and would like to spend more time with you, can we exchange numbers so that maybe we can make that happen sometime?" (Walking directly up to him with certainty and confidence and doing this one when he's walking/hanging out with a MALE friend somewhere is usually priceless and will result in long-term humor benefits)

Seems like this is something that would be easy to ask for since you've already made out with the dude.

Frankly, maybe he's having the same problem of not understanding how you guys could be progressing like this without already having each others' numbers. Plus you DID grab the phone out of his hand, so maybe he's worried that you have some kind of issue or hang up about it.

Thank you, this is some great advice. It's sometimes hard to look at it objectively when you're in the situation. Tomorrow is his birthday, so I'm going to give him a birthday card with a message and my number inside. Sound like a good plan? The only problem is that he is never alone - he is usually with a group of six guys. Cheers to confidence and just doing it!
