For the past year my boyfriend seem to be dealing with money issues and has bills to be payed which is understandable. Sometimes it gets to me because most of the time when I go out I buy the food and when he does , he always seem to tell me how he needs to pay this and that and how he always short on money.
I won’t be spending Christmas together but I’m going see him before and after Christmas. I told him how i haven’t bought anyone gift expect my younger brother. He said “ if you give me a present I’ll be surprised but I don’t have any money “ making it seem like he not going give me anything. I told him that it was okay that we can skip gifts this year. He then said “ when was the last time you gifted me something “ like what? 😂 I said last year and he like oh yeah your right lol. Anyways should I not gift him nothing if he doesn’t? There is a possibility that he could gift me something after Christmas like he did last year but I don't know.

In my opinion, you give a gift because you want to make the person receiving it feel good and because giving someone pleasure makes you, yourself, feel good.
Presents shouldn't be given because they are expected, but because you want to express how much you care about another person. They also shouldn't be given based on what you're going to receive in return.
I think so, but remind him to spoil you a little when things get better.
Do what you want to do to express affection. It's not about the gift, or it at least shouldn't be.
