''They say there is a doorway from heart to heart
but what is the use of a door when there are no walls''?
I've heard this quote but don't have any idea about the exact meaning of it. Any opinions?

“They say there is a doorway from heart to heart, but what is the use of a door when there are no walls?” It is a quote by great poet Rumi. He was a Sufi – loving his God as if he is God` girlfriend / spouse. One should know the history / meaning of quote for using it. In a similar quote Jesus said, “I am the gate for the sheep: whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, freely and find pasture.” We need to see people we meet and world we live with Jesus’ heart, Jesus’ mind and Jesus’ door. “Open Hearts, Open Minds, and Open Doors” is the United Methodist’s trademark phrase expression its mission. It is a wonderful catch phrase, and its essence contains the holy message as well as the Methodist Social Affirmation to the world. To whom and how should we open these doors: with our hearts, minds and opportunities is our decision. It is better if we do not use such quotes for ordinary things or sex talks.
I don't know the original intent of the person who said it, but when I read it I think of promiscuous women who "can't seem to find a good man". I think it's sad how many young women buy into the idea that free sex can work just as well for them as it does for men, only to realize later in life, when they can't take it back, that it was all a lie and they wish they had not given themselves away to every guy they were sexually attracted to.
The walls used to be there for a reason. Feminism removed them and women's hearts are NOT better off for it.
People will only let you into their hearts if they choose to.

There are walls though. I don't think I've heard this metaphor but it works because everybody has invisible walls around them and I suppose somewhere there are doors which let you through one wall at a time - some people have a whole lot more walls than others.
To have walls then you need to make rooms, so if your willing to make room for someone, then by opening that door, is making room, and instantly your walls appear, how many you allow that person to knock down depends on how much you allow that person room and how much of them you want in,x
I take it to mean you needn't try so hard to connect with someone; it it is meant to be, you won't have to try techiniques or approaches, you will jsut naturally be attracted to each other, wherever yuo happen to be, and whattever youhappen to be doing.
You don't need to look for the door, because there is no wall between you if it is meant to be.
if your heart is open to everyone (no walls) then what's the point in a door for only one person to use (door without any walls surrounding it have no purpose, equally a relationship with someone who opens themselves to everyon ehas no purpose)
it means that someone can choose when to let someone in, but if you don't set up a wall the door is useless.
sorry if you don't understand, I'm terrible at wording stuff like this
It's not a stable relationship, it's bound to fall apart
The analogy using the door, does include walls...
It means being open hearted.
