Should you forgive if you got forgiven?

Question

Example:

Your best friend A caught you (B) stealing their money and talking bad behind their back.

A forgives you, giving you a 2nd chance. You learned and never did it again.

Years later, it's A that stole money from you. Same offense you got forgiven for. So now you have to forgive right? It's only fair.

Same thing if cheating happens. If your partner forgave then you're suppose to be forgiving too if they do the same?

A couple years ago, I and a friend of mine got into a temporarily friendship ending argument. I was acting in an unreasonable way, but she lashed out at me and said some very cruel things in response. We both could've handled it better.

About a year later, I apologized to her for my unreasonable actions and expectations that I had before. She accepted my apology, but she herself never apologized for the extremely hurtful things she said.

I never forgot that. I'm still her friend, and I apologized to her because she deserved the apology, not because I was trying to get one back. But I'll still always remember the things she said, the way she thought of me, and the fact that she apparently had no remorse over that. She felt vindicated that I came back to her and never examined how her own behavior played a role.

Just because she forgave me for what I did, doesn't mean I owe her forgiveness for what she said. I care about her, but I'll never forget that side of her.

Never forgive and never forget. If you do or pretend to do, it must have some benefits for you or you like being abused.

i saw your idea in the amazing and very good series out of this world, and failed to understand.

in real life, if people did what you said maybe the amount matters, if i stole 20 and forgave without pay then they stole 20 or less but wait after forgave can't "collect debt" so no... no obligation to forgive, unless ask and compensate.
