Not really. The distinction I personally make is:
A relationship that didn't work didn't work because of some fact that was too big how to ignore. For example, living very far away and not being able to meet.
A failed one is a failed one because one of the parts of the relationship had some sort of extremely stupid and demanding expectation. For example, a girl who dumped her boyfriend for not working out every day.
To be honest that's just so stupid that I think I'm losing IQ points reading it. Both examples failed, they both didn't work. You can waffle as much as you like though.
In the first example, the circumstances were inappropiate. There was nobody to blame.
On the second, that girl is an asshole. And you are too.
Both are still failures, both still didn't work. Harking back to your original point about "failed relationship to failed relationship" there is no distinction between that and a relationship that "didn't work" and you should choose your words more carefully if you wanna be a dick about it.
