Is the ''as long as he/she makes you happy, that's all that matters'' phrase a lie?

Let's say your parents for whatever reason literally hated your partner. Then suddenly (after so much struggle and frequent arguments) they say ''If you're happy and he/she makes you happy then that's all that matters, I'll love him/her'', is that really a lie? My guess is they will never truly like (much less love) that person and are just forced to being cordial for their child's sake, esp if that person will give them grandkids. lol

It happened to my best friend (a guy). Supposedly his parents and his now wife have been on good terms for 4 years now. They claimed to now adore the girl but I doubt it. Somewhere within them, there must be that lingering overall dislike. They suddenly changed their minds as soon as he proposed to her; the following year she gave birth to twin girls. lol

Yes, they are both a happy couple but I'm guessing his parents aren't personally fond of his wife. They just have no choice but to accept her otherwise, they won't have any relationship with their son nor granddaughters.
