I asked my girlfriend to marry me recently, and wear our ring. I'm thankful she's in my life and I enjoy seeing the ring on her.something like this...We've lived together for 6 months, met on GAG 6 years ago long distance.
I've been one to resist marriage, having never been married and wasting lots of time on the wrong people. I was conditioned to be in fear of marriage.
Marriage isn't everything, is it? To me, it's a way of saying... I love you, you are special to me, I'm committed to you only, I'm here for you, and you are mine (so others know she is taken). I've grown to appreciate her as a person and I want to ensure sure she's in my life.

First, a heartfelt and hearty congratulations. May you both have a long and happy life together and know nothing but love.
Fortunately, I have been lucky to have a woman in my life - she is the mother of three of my four children - for about 12 years now. The funny part is we are actually both pretty traditional but we decided - much to the dismay of our families, particularly her dad - to move in together, but it was under the assumption that we would get married. Yet we kept putting it off and putting it off.
Then my girlfriend got pregnant. The first of the three most beautiful gifts a woman has ever given a man. I love my little munchkins and would do anything to protect them and care for them and for my girlfriend.
During this whole time we kept talking about marriage and it took on more urgency once my girlfriend was pregnant. Then finally - again to our mutual surprise - we realized that we did not want to be married.
We think that what we have and share is natural and beautiful and the idea of an expensive ring, a big ceremony and a permission slip from the state was artificial and contrived and somehow diminished what we have. (The religious question - we are both Catholic - to be sure is something that we have not fully reconciled in our own minds.)
Yet were you to see us, we are a happy and loving family, with all the ups and downs that come with it. To be sure, in our early days we were a bit crazy, but that was mostly because of what I was wrestling with and I was blessed enough to find a woman who cared so much for me that she was willing to push the envelope. I quickly learned - and she always knew - that the best sex you have, and our sex is still quite "wild," is the sex you have with the person who means something to you.
Heck, would I even suggest our approach to the world? Nope. From a sociological and historical perspective marriage is good for society and good for man. (One indicator - married men and women have longer lifespans then their non-married counterparts.)
Still, no, I don't want to get married. At this moment, when I wake up and feel the most beautiful woman in the world at my side, and when three little munchkins run up to me when I get home shouting "DADDY!!!", that is what I want. Because I have never been happier and I don't see what a pricey ring would do to make that better. Not least because you can't improve upon perfection.

The concept of marriage in todays world is crazy to me. You can get married but honestly, there is no legal obligation that your partner will ever have to or be expected to up hold their oaths... but you will be legally obligated to pay finically for all their sins.
Yes, but no. Women are liberated so they don't need marriage in the way that traditional concept of marriage has been applied in the past. In the past you had to have a real reason to get divorced and there was usually fault or cause associated with it. But now day you can get divorce for any reason and some one will be finically obligated to pay.
I like the idea of being married and so does my boyfriend but it’s a little too soon and we’re both young and don’t have our careers set out just yet. From the get go, we hoped this relationship would end up in marriage, so it’s in both our interests. Maybe in a couple years 😊
Good luck I wish you the best... I think I would of said the same thing at the beginning of my relationship. I applaud you taking it slow and being deliberate, but optimistic about your approach... I do think it will pay off later for you or greatly increase the odds in your favor!!! I am pulling for you!!!

Wow this is beautiful to hear. Im honestly debating if i still want marriage. I do want commitment and monogamy but the legal docs of marriage bother me.
@DizzyDesii This is why you need to really get to know somebody. You need to look at his character. I used to tell my kids that when you meet somebody you should check out their teeth. If they have bed teeth it probably means they do not take good care of themselves. If they don't take good care of themselves they won't take good care of you either.

No I will not ask someone for marriage this year since am not in for rush hour stuff. Prefer taking my time to get yo to onow her fist rather than rushing into marriage. Since marriage is not a must sign of true love. But just a level built on love.

I have also been conditioned to fear marriage... by watching virtually every married man I have known get screwed hard by their wives and the legal system

To be honest, I'm single, but there's a possibility that I might do that or have a baby this year. Hopefully none of those happen too soon or at a bad time
I can't. You go to jail for having 2 wives but it could be fun. Probably have to get another job to support another wife and then not have time to see either of them.
