After 4 years together and living together for 3 he wants to get his own place. I own the place we live in and he feels like it isn't 'his' house also. He doesn't want to breakup but he would like to rent a place of his own and then he thinks we could buy a house together in the future. My house is a condo and he was paying half of everything except the HOA fees. Recently I've been assessed a huge fee to pay for major building repairs (like over 50k in the next 5 years). I've looked into selling but with it's ongoing issues and looming 5yr assessment it looks unlikely. He and I have had some disagreements and fights but overall get along fine. Another reason he said he wants to move out is because he doesn't feel comfortable living in my house because he's going to be the one who has to move out if we break up. Logically if we are together as a unit this doesn't make sense to me. How does this help 'us' save to buy a house together in the future? I'll be drowning in bills now and he'll be paying twice or more for his own place. He even already has a place lined up that he claims I could move into if I sell my condo but it doesn't allow pets (I have a dog).
