How normal is it to feel angry about being single?

Anonymous
I have been single for 3 years. I actually broke up with my last girlfriend but I had good reason for it.

I have tried getting dates both in person and on dating apps. The few dates I did go on weren’t that great. I did have a discreet fling going on with a much younger women last year. We both agreed to keep it under wraps. But it didn’t last long.

Anyway I find myself most depressed and angry around holiday celebrations and when I see almost all my friends and family being in long term relationships. I also have a bday coming up and I went through a really shitty (actually horrifying) experience with one particular ex about 7 years ago right on bday. I tell myself not to think that way but it’s tough when your single.

It has gotten to the point that i will do the bare minimum when it comes to interaction. They used to make stupid insensitive comments about being long time single. They shut up now but there is a quiet judgment I can often sense.
