Would you try roleplay with your partner?

Not necessarily as a bedroom thing, but also as a simple way to have fun and bring some novelty in the relationship?

My wife and I had dabbled with it in the past, but started to really get into it only recently - since we both have private and work phones, she called me with her other phone and I didn't immediately recognize her - also because she introduced herself with another name to pull a prank on me - and afterwards the idea of calling each other with other numbers and pretend to be other people just kinda came to us. For now it's just been phone calls, whatsapps and a couple of coffee dates, but we are planning to cut out an afternoon or an evening (a night would be too much since we have a baby daughter) to go to a restaurant or hotel and take it a level further.

I admit I really like this thing, it breaks the routine and distracts me a bit from the everyday worries and stresses.

What about you? Would you try something of the like? Those who tried roleplay, how was your experience?

I remember an episode of "Sex and the City" about this, between the Samantha and Smith characters. They would dress up 'in disguise' like "Sexy Smith, Secret Agent" and role-play some story. Samantha loved it. She wanted to keep going with it, but eventually Smith wanted to resume their normal selves, and really get to know each other. Samantha found this boring. (But she didn't much like intimacy, so that was really the real reason, most likely.)

Something that occurred to me reading your post... hopefully neither of you ever tricks each other and tries to catch some flirting with another person on the phone. That sounds like trouble. Maybe you'll recognize each other's voices though.

I don't think my partner would be into this at all. He's not like that. And I'm not very much either. I don't know who I would want to pretend to be. What would the details be? This is the kind of thing you learn in improv acting classes, I hear. Sounds like I might struggle with it. But I think with a different person, it might be fun to pretend to be other people. Not really sure what it would accomplish, but I guess it's just to amuse yourselves and each other. I find it hard to not be me, be authentic. But I do understand how that could feel liberating to some extent.

Actually, I just thought of another example, this time in film. This is one of my favourite scenes of all time. This is my kind of foreplay. I would absolutely do this. In a heartbeat!

I think I understand what you mean - there's the risk of preferring the "game" over the actual relationship. This is something we try and be careful about, and like all things there's a "play time" and a time to be serious.
I don't think there's the actual risk of ending up talking or texting a real stranger - we've saved our alternate numbers so I know that if I get a text or the receptionist passes me a call from "Marianne", it's actually my wife. Same for her and a certain "Andrea". Plus we recognize our voices on the line.

I understand that not being your thing - to be honest it's not like we are that smooth, we do have our moments of embarrassment or one of us cracks up.
For me personally it's a way to have some fun and it helps taking my mind off current worries and recent events for a moment. Also feels refreshing to put in the effort and try to impress and court her up again when we go out for a coffee.

I've never seen the movie of the scene you linked here, but watching the latter I can understand how it is a turn-on for you - I know that language and deep communication are really important to you, and there are some really beautiful words in there.

but this is something for which you definitely need the right person beside you, the one that is actually going to be into it and I mean really into it, they will bring all the passion and the excitement and then take all of that into new levels of bonding and intimacy

and personally, to me... it was not so much about "playing and acting, pretending" none of that, it can be a lot more than that when you're with the right someone that can actually draw you in, into another side of them and engulf you all with it...

that's what I liked the best... and I must say it was not me the one into these things, it was hers, it was one of her ways to go about these things when she really felt in the mood for it, and another thing that makes it all so much more special is that (at least in my experience) it does require an impressive and truly amazing level of emotional intelligence and, an intellectual as well... because you certainly need that sync, that affinity and also the willingness to read and follow every switching mood and moments, and this, those moments of intensity and completely giving yourself into it are some of the greatest experiences I ever had with someone, that very special someone of course... is not something I would do just with everyone, because not everyone is truly into it nor willing to make most of it, but when they are that right one... you're getting into a life changing experience, in the best sense of that concept, of course

I have in the past and would welcome it again.
Before my kids got here my wife and I would end up going to the local, adult shop at least every other month to pick out something new to wear. About a 3rd of the time it ended up beinf role play outfits.

My first thought regarding this question went straight to the bedroom, in which case my answer would be no. I think having been married this long, I would crack up if my husband started acting.

After reading your story, I realized that yeah, we've pretended we were having an affair with eachother a few times.

It started one time when we met for lunch in separate cars and we were stared at in sort of a suspicious manner by another couple. We smiled at eachother, realizing what was happening and started acting like we were on a secret date. 😈

Now we joke about it anytime we take separate cars.

Yep, that's fun and kind of thrilling because you play it like it's a clandestine thing. It's the thrill of having a secret affair without actual cheating.
I admit it's fun when others (naturally people who don't know you) think there's something up.
My wife went as far as saying something of the like "My husband is not jealous but let's not give him reason to suspect anything" right as the server was passing by. It was fun seeing her throwing us looks the whole time we were there lol.

Sometimes we crack up or laugh, it's not easy to keep up the act! It's easier when we text each other.
