Why is it that a husband and wife don't ask each other for help when they need it? Why do they resort to their children for help separately?

Again, I am watching Modern Family S1E13. That show is very very relatable. Very nice and good show.

The wife is not able to handle the TV remote. She gets frustrated and smashes it. The husband makes a bet with her that he can teach their eldest daughter, Hailey, to handle the remote in 20 minutes. He does. And now the wife feels a bit insecure. And a hunger to learn the remote.

But instead of going to her husband to learn, she goes to her daughter at night and asks for help. When her daughter asks why can't she learn from her husband, she says, 'Because we are married.'.

I just felt extremely related to all this kind of behaviour. My parents whenever they need help, they always approach me, not their spouse. I don't know what goes on here, but the sitcom cleverly portrayed the behaviour.

Can you tell what happens here? Why do married people not prefer to seek help from each other, but seek help from their children? What are the dynamics at play here?
