I understand there are unhealthy reasons. Perhaps you may be drawn to a certain ethnicity due to a fetish, but I don't understand why some people have an issue, when two individuals are simply attracted to each other, and like each other's company.

I am truly grateful for everybody's commentary, whether it is something I agree with or not. This question had high participation. It's a daunting task to pick only two opinions. Thank you all for contributing and for sharing so many viewpoints. I feel like a more intelligent person and have a better understanding of this issue. I am thankful for all of your input.
The two opinions selected brought to light thought processes that challenged me to look at the question from different angles.

The problem with this question is that 99% of all people will think (white men) in terms of racism and not liking interracial. because racist people other than white don't get much converage because it's not controversial enough.

- The same way things like shootings of unarmed white guys by police doesn't get anywhere near as many media outlets picking up the stories as does unarmed shootings of black guys.

It all goes back to the days when white people had black slaves. History won't stop with the white guilt even though almost NOBODY alive today had owned slaves. You can't condemn next generations for what their ancestors did. That's just plain stupidity.

Ignorant stuff like that is why the very first thing many people think of when a white person (says) or (does) something against black people is that that person is "racist". But let a black person say or do something against a white person and nobody cares and guarantee not many call them racist..

I’m a mixed kid who comes from an interracial couple. I’m not going to blame the mainstream media for one persons comments/actions towards my parents or any other mixed race couple because to me, that’s not holding them accountable for their own actions and words. It’s not the mainstream medias fault that, on my parents wedding day, a white lady who my parents did not know at came up to my dad and congratulated him before taking a look at my mother. When she did, she had a disgusted look on her face and asked my father in the most outrageous tone, “why didn’t you marry a white lady?” You can’t blame mainstream media for that. The only thing or person to blame in that situation is the white lady. There’s only one word for what my mom experienced that time and that is racism. That’s not the fault of the mainstream media, that’s the fault of some bitchy white lady who couldn’t mind her own damn business. The way I see it, as long as the couple isn’t hurting anybody, it’s no one’s business but theirs as to their race or sexuality or anything like that. There’s nothing wrong with being the same race as your partner, just as there’s nothing wrong with being a different race then your partner. It’s not the fault of mainstream media that some people are judgmental and can’t mind their own damn business. Sure, mainstream media has several issues with correctly representing the underrepresented communities, but I’m not going to blame mainstream media for racist people and for people who can’t mind their own business.

In theory I don't think there is anything wrong with it. In practice I think it's 95% done in a bad wrong way.

The only pairings that are fetishized are black male and white woman as well as white man and Asian woman. All the other pairs are ok and nothing wrong with it. Those two are PRIMARILY done because of a racism fetish.

I've personally met many white women who liked black men, and they fetishize the skin color. "Why do you like black men?" "The dark skin and the contrast, it's very attractive" wtf does that mean? Do I get hard over blue eyes and stay limp dicked over brown eyes? That would be a ridiculous level of fetishization. Not only do they like the feature but they like it into comparison of their own. Which is super weird... I have blonde hair and the thing I like best about a woman is that she specifically has brown hair so our hairs mix together when our heads are close and it's the most attractive thing. Wtf. That's weird asf and that's definition fetishism.

On top of that society pushes certain pairings. Like why are black male white woman couples over represented In movies and TV while Asian man and native American woman couples for example aren't common in movies? Wtf? Why do people discriminate against Asian and a native American couple? Smh. Clearly people making these judgement calls in popular culture have an agenda.

So add together the vast majority of these couples are fetishes and the fact society is pushing a racist agenda, yeah I do assume the worst when I see these couples... and in my experience I'm most likely correct.

As I said at the top in theory there is no issue with it. It's just in practice sooooo many people have done it for the wrong reasons I no longer believe people do it for the right reasons.

Yes. Personally I've now known two black guys who we talked about this topic with. They both said to some degree basically they would date a white girl but not one who dated black guys before because they are concerned it's a fetish. Because statistically in most of America anyways its not likely a white woman is socializing with many eligible black men and few white men. It means she's most likely searching them out or just doesn't date white guys.

I've also met the black guys that are like "let me bag as many white sluts I can" like it's a game or a prize or something.

A true interracial relationship to me is one that hardly consists of bringing up eachothers race. I’ve dated outside of my race many times but can only think of two who just enjoyed being together without making dumb remarks. The rest couldnt compliment me without adding in black, chocolate or something similar in that very same sentence. I have the exact same thought. Although in my case previous interracial relationship it was festered with racism from her family's side (mainly her mom). Her mom played an important role in sabotaging the relationship for no other reason than RACE, and just wanted her daughter to date someone who is culturally closer to them. She also went as far as trying to hook her daughter up with other boys (trying to get them to bond with her), despite me being in the picture still.

The only reason why she managed to throw dirt on the relationship was because my ex didn't have the guts to stand up for me or the relationship. This is a major red flag in any relationship, when your partner doesn't have the guts to stand up for their significant other. You don't even have to fight your family, you just have to contradict the false assumptions and bigotry.

Oh well, my ex turned out to have a personality disorder (most likely also bipolar) so it's not like her mom didn't do me a favor by sabotaging the relationship anyway. Good riddance to them both.

I'm open to dating interracially, but I also prefer someone of my own race. Simply so I don't have to deal with the bullshit of racism.

Like i said i think its about embracing both cultures because a lot of mixed kids dont like to claim their other half. That's a great question. Some people are more worried about others lives than their own. They're worried about something that it doesn't affect them at all.

The real reason why they're so concerned is because they're racist. They think that their "race" will be "extinct" because of interracial relationships which is completely nonsensical and untrue. In some cases it's because they think men or women of their "race" are being "stolen" from them by men or women of a certain "race". This is sad and ridiculous in my opinion.

In the end, what others do with their love life is nobody else's business. So being worried about it, is a waste of time and energy.

It comes down to keeping race, culture and numbers for the races in question. A lot of people who hate or have interracial dislike are those that want to preserve the integrity of what I listed above. Being mixed myself, I identify as biracial of both black and white. I don't date exclusively my race and have been attracted to women all across the racial spectrum.

Point is, people who take issue with it feel threatened and act as gatekeepers to say we should only fate people of our race to keep the race alive. You know what I love Interracial relationships, I love White women, and I will say this openly without fearing anyone with a big smile. But people feel Insecure, this goes to all races, especially black and whites. Some of Black women when they see a Black man dates or married a white woman or any other race, they question why? 3. Now that all of the fake racial stuff is out of the way, let's deal with real issues. Culture. For folks who are really concerned over the survival of their culture and ethnicity, there are real concerns. I think most of that can be addressed with communication and finding a way to an understanding. Culture is a real thing. Cultural groups have real histories.

I think its the inability of cultural bias and the misconception of the concept cultural appropriation with one trying to learn the others culture.

Japanese people are probably one of the most confusing of this ideology as they actively are one of the few rabidly against foreigners adapting their culture and or learning it. But back to the OP statement interracial relationships I think most of all it comes back to the fear of what then is that offspring gonna culturally identify scares others. And people don't grasp that culture ultimately is a mix of ideals and ways of life and its not just ones pure identity. A lot of people don't grasp that cultures we know today aren't their single core culture. They are more often than not a conglomerate similar to what is the US/American culture is.

Its human nature to fear the unknown to its not like I blame people fearing what happens when cultures merge.

That’s a good question. There is nothing wrong with an interracial relationship. It shouldn’t bother anyone. It doesn’t involve or pose a threat to anyone else’s love relationship or marriage. People should learn to respect the agency of others. I often wonder the same thing when it comes to polygamy and plural marriage (polygyny) which is still wrongfully illegal and discriminated against within the United States and many other parts of the world despite the legalization and pushing of LGBTQ. If a man’s wife is completely and totally OK with him being in an additional marriage or two to a different wife in each marriage, the rest of society should bug out and leave it alone! People should just respect the choices of others, especially when such choices are made by person (s) in doing what they feel is honestly correct for their own lives/family. As long as everyone is of legal consenting age, it doesn’t harm others, and no one is forced, abused, or under duress. No matter the type of relationship or marriage, society’s judgement and/or laws should have no say in the matter!

Racism or ignorance. Racism if they think it's bad for races to mix because the genes won't be "pure" anymore (or something like that), or one is out of the others league / it would be a shame to date them because of their race.

Ignorance if they just think there can't be enough in common for it to work. But usually this can be solved by just seeing an interracial couple has worked. So if they still think that after seeing evidence, they're likely just using that as a cover for racism.

Not having an appreciation month does not mean you have to live in shame. That statement sounded silly in itself. A lot of the majority (white) AND minorities do not even pay attention to black, latin, Asian, lgbt appreciation months because a lot of us (especially us minorities) appreciate ourselves daily. YET we are happy that other cultures can learn to experience more about our culture through one month a year. If your husband is feeling shame then thats on him if he decides to succumb and be one of those people who feel the need to get on the street and kiss the feets of others for what his ancestors may have done. If he is not following in the footsteps of certain racist ancestors than there is no reason for him to feel shame. I actually date outside my race and have meet dome truly wonderful women, but there is one thing that tends to bother me, I grew up with some great kids that were of mixed race and I remember them saying that they didn't know where they belonged as they felt they didn't exactly fit in with either race they were part of. I feel bad for those children. Seems very important for young children especially, to feel loved, and to find a place where they are comfortable. We have several friends with mixed race children and they don't seem to be having that issue. It is likely that different areas of the country and the world will treat this type of relationship differently.

but if it's about myself not considering dating outside my own race, i can think of a few reasons why though they dont really matter to me in the end.

first is that, i seem to be drawn to my owm race for the aesthetics. somehow I can feel a connection between race and culture, and feel more comfortable that is more matching with the culture i'm used to. it's not a blanket statement though.

if I went as far as having kids together, as i keep hearing, the child grows up with some identity crisis, wouldn't like it.

all of which are non-issues when you and the other person understand and respect each other, and you dont want to raise your kids with tribal mind.

Because they were raised that every race and nationality and religion should end up together only. White with white, black with black, Asian with Asian…….. etc. it bothers them to see happy black with white or European with an Arab….. etc. It just how media and culture have effected many people. Wow. It's like you were speaking on my behalf. You were absolutely spot on! That's EXACTLY what I've experienced in a previous relationship myself. Dated a girl with a racist family (mainly her mom) and she did everything she can to sabotage the relationship between me and her daughter. Either the mom threw a temper tantrum at her daughter for not dating a boy she 'approves' of, or she went as far as trying to get her daughter to bond with other boys. It didn't matter to her that seeing her daughter happy should be more important than her racist prejudice.

The sad thing is, my ex didn't have the guts to stand up for me our relationship. And honestly, I'm glad that relationship ended because next to being rid of racist "in-laws", I also got rid of an ex who was causing me emotional abuse due to her personality disorder.

But yeah, I can already picture the mom saying "see? I told you it wouldn't last" when it was she who played a major role in it ending. Good riddance to both I say.

We learn what's normal from environment, including media. Prejudice via prior negative experiences or perceptions can influence thinking.

This is broader than white/black. Chinese, korean, Pakistani, India... some families will have their desires to stay in their culture. I know you stated "race", but what are we really talking about? Often, it is parents that are bothered by the choices of their kids... they have expectations.

A lot of the thinking I've seen is about "success". Parents approve if their kid will be better off.

I have a lot of "mixed" and inter-cultural people in family. I don't know anyone that cares or even thinks about it. One of the parents did not care for the choices of his daughters... and that caused issues.

Set aside obvious and short sighted reasons such as racism, let's just face it that the difference in cultural habits and religion may cause a lot of trouble in a relationship. There's also something instinctive difficult to describe, and when starting a serious relationship, odds are high both families will in some way be involved, which can make things the more difficult...

Personally I don't give a damn about the ethnicity of a woman I love, but some possible exceptions set aside, and by default, I don't want to be involved with that woman's family, certainly not during the first months. The same with my own family: I don't want them to interfere. Now, I'm very well aware that things may depend on circumstances as always.

Thing is that mixing the races actually creates longevity and healthier people with different genetics. Just like dogs , purebreds don’t live as long as mutts. Because it has been planted and nurtured at an early age and that goes for any society, the social identity people feel the need to group together and discriminate against others based on anything you name it color, religion, geography one by one until it narrows down within one’s own group there is north and south, rich part of town and the poor one, this and that it never stops once initiated it will become a standard and common sense according to Albert Einstein common sense is nothing more than a collection of prejudices you acquire from childhood and to the age of 18. If your common sense tells you you are better than other people you will always find a reason to dislike someone because they don’t make sense to you and never will. Add a sprinkle of religion to the mix with hint of politics, let it simmer and you are perfect form of man.
