What is the point of having girlfriend?

It’s ok, I’m not a psycho. I’m a PhD student (24yrs), I have never been in a relationship before. But I always wanted to get a girlfriend. The thing is that I can never get myself define why! It’s not like I have any issue talking to women normally, but whenever I think I have a crush on her, I get bombarded with these stupid questions and inferiority complexes.
