My boyfriend lied about dating his friend before. Should I be worried or mad?

I know it's been like 5 years ago, but he has this close girl friend that he met at work before. I know her and she's pretty. I asked him (more than once, I think), if he ever dated that girl. He said no. But my friends knew a different story, and that they dated and he even gifted her something. My friends know them both coz we were all working in one company before.

It kinda bothers me that he lied about it. They don't really have connection anymore (or so I thought). I don't really check his messages, coz honestly, that's super tiring. But yeah, should I be mad about it? I can't stop thinking about it though.

It doesn’t matter how long ago it was, you asked him repeatedly and he lied each time. How can you build a healthy relationship with a liar? As of now you barely even trust him and it’s a huge red flag to be checking his messages whatsoever. Your feelings for a man should never ever outweigh your standards and boundaries. I don't know if you’ve been hurt in the past or in a bad relationship, but the purpose of being with a new guy is to do better. Right now, all you’re doing is worsening your insecurities, damaging your ability to trust, and ruining it for the next guy, who will undoubtedly pay for what the last ones caused.

Men lie to avoid drama.

You need to clearly communicate about this situation with him even if it's uncomfortable.

If he continually tries to hide stuff then he is immature and probably not very good relationship material.

Of course he has. Men lie for different reasons than women. And as a woman, we say we want the full truth from men but we don't.
