Could you really lie to someone you love? Even if it’s understood that trust is very important on both ends?

I grew up in an environment where trust was nonexistent. I got into a relationship with a guy who has become my absolute best friend. We were together for 3 years when I found out he was lying to me about a lot of things. Now I feel like our foundation is shaky and I don’t know if I can trust him at all. He is trying to justify his lying but I am lost. Could you lie to someone if you really love them? I have already stated I would much rather him be honest about whatever, then I could at least trust and respect him. Don’t try to lie to protect my feelings…

I shot my neighbor's pitbull. She kept letting it out to crap on everyone's lawn. The neighbour between our house put up a fence in his yard so it started in mine and when I confronted her about she just started screaming at me and of course the dog was snarling. So I said OK and backed away. I hadn't forgotten and happened a few more times but I just wasn't I the right postion but I just waited. One Sunday morning at 6.30 am I was ready. Out it came and I was waiting with my moseberg 500 and shot it twice in the head and then dropped the carcass at her home. She called the police but I had already filed two complaints of a dangerous animal being let off its lead that they hadn't got to yet. Nothing she could do. She got a new dog and walking past her place I s0aid directly too her new dog? I got a new gun.
