My background is European. I was raised "old school". I have far too much self respect & self esteem to waste my time living with someone when there is no intention of marriage.

And it is a waste of time when there is no committment or no intentions of committment.

If I want to live with someone else I'll look for a roommate. Another woman.

If you feel there is no value of staying together unless you get married, then you don`t value that person enough to stay or marry them in the first place. So I see it absolutely the opposite way of how you see it and I`m also European. You stay with someone because you love them and want to stay with them, not because you are bound by a slave contract you call marriage and don`t want the hassle of a divorce.

PS: It is also absolutely no surprise to me now why you are so hung up on marriage. Any other sane man would immediately try to run away from you once he finds out your personality. So you need some way to at least make it harder for them to get away from you. So yeah, really no surprise about why you think that way. Men should be careful about this and check their local laws, there is something called as common law, you live with a woman (co-habitate) long enough and she becomes your wife. Apart from that remember that men dont owe you commitment so I think such an arrangement favors men, they get all the benefits of a wife without the commitment.

There is no real value to marriage. If you love each other you will stay together anyway, if you don`t love each other anymore you will eventually get divorced anyway. Marriage is just a burden that you put on each other without any real merit.

Marriage is just a legally binding contract and it costs money for what? Governments approval and recognition? Whoever invented marriage (and it's dissolution) was certainly a clever business minded person and is a great example to show in business schools. It's currently my living situation. I expressed to my partner that I don't really have any wish to get married I'm order to feel like he's committed to me. He was ok with it. We've been living together for 2 years now
