Cursing / cussing / foul language. Who else finds it trashy?

Question

So lately I've noticed that in public people of all ages just free flow with what used to be considered pretty vulgar language.  Maybe I'm getting old but I just find it tacky/trashy. I've also got kids now and where people used to kind of censor themselves around the kids now we can be out to dinner (or whereever) and it's just open season.  Now I'm not relgious or up tight and I do beleive in free/open speech but does anyone else find it tacky/trashy/annoying?

For what it's worth I try to be plesant when it public; especially around children / elderly people.  Like let me drop the F-bomb around my grandma, I think she's have a heart murmur.  Same around kids, no sense having them going to school and repeat some ugliness because of my insensitivity.

I don't swear when I am with clients or around people I don't know and I tend not to swear around kids, but I honestly think that most people should just realise they are words. Nothing more. The word fuck is an incredibly versatile word. Can be used as a verb, a noun, an adjective...

Trash is trash. Swearing doesn't make someone trashy in my book. Having no diplomacy or social skills is something that is across the board, trashy people or not. Having no regard for the person you are talking to or not realising that words can cause offence is bad social skills. I don't think swearing is a bad thing, but knowing what does and doesn't offend people is a good skill to use when speaking in public.

for one, i don't see any problem with filthy language~ it's been proven in studies that people who drop f-bombs and the like are more honest and genuine.

i talk like a trucker most of the time; my sentences are peppered with obscenities (although not drowning in them), but there's a time and a place for it; i do try to censor myself around children/my parents/people who are offended by anything and everything... in short, i just happen to be an intelligent, classy, educated woman who says 'fuck' a lot. and that's the way the fish-paste cookie crumbles.

I will always value for better or worse the intent not the words used when someone is speaking. I have no problem with obscenities of any manner. With that being said There are just times and places where being a gentleman or a lady is called for. When children are present, when older folks are present or in business situations, it is beneficial to be on your best behavior. Outside of these types of situations I have no problems with it.

Everything should be with it's limits. Cursing is fine so long as you don't overdo it. It can be funny if you use the correct offensive word in the right places but it grows old real fast if you use them all of the time.

I'm not offended by swearing but I do find it to be distasteful and undignified to swear excessively for no reason be it in a public place or not.

Swearing should only be used where necessary or appropriate such as to emphasise the seriousness of a situation or express immense dissatisfaction or unbelievable surprise or during some rough sex and so on.

There is no need for swearing in a restaurant unless the food is so bad that it requires an Gordon Ramsay-esque critique and there is no need for it in any public or private place as I explained before unless it is absolutely necessary.

What's happening is foul language is losing its punch due to it's overuse.

As I said, excessive, careless and unwarranted swearing is unnecessary, ugly and undignified.

I cringe when I hear people cursing too much.

I don't feel comfortable engaging in a conversation or just being with a group if they curse every minute.

Once in a while, I can deal with but more than that, nah.

And yeah, these days some parents think it's cool take teach the kids words like those.

I was just raised to believe that its disrespectful to cuss around elders so I always did a double take when friends cussed around their parents.

But I do cuss often. I just monitor who I do it around.

I think it certainly depends on the people you're with and the situation you're in. If you have no filter ever, then yes trashy. But if you use it with friends, I don't see a problem.

I never curse around strangers since they get offended by that type of thing. I also don't curse around my family at all.

Personally, i feel uncomfortable around cussing because my parents don't approve of it. And honestly, i know it is kind of mean, but when i hear someone cussing quite frequently i either label them as "attention seeker" or "uneducated". There are much better words to express feelings than cuss words. But hey, that's just my preference that is probably mostly influenced by my upbringing.

depends. i voted no because i curse a decent amount. i'm not gonna be a pussy and say i'm offended. my friends curse a lot and i curse at my friends a lot (usually because i'm making fun of them). i played football, ultimate frisbee (yes, it gets intense) and rugby and literally every other word is fuck, pussy, faggot, bitch and/or shit. but i also don't particularly care for people cursing all the time.

I limit the foul language, because I don't want it to accidentally slip in a professional environment. Sometimes it slips out, I think this week I said one cuss word.

My friends cuss all the time, it is difficult to not say some sometimes. But I agree with you, I think with children and some elderly people around it can be really obnoxious. I went to a school to help a 2nd grade class and was appalled at what the little kids were saying!

I curse and I'm not going to hold back. It's an actual stress reliever and I can use whatever language I want. However, the "I'm a fucking swagfag and I say fuck and shit a lot to piss off old shitheads" type is just really dumb to me. I do have a problem with it when people use it excessively. It's also hard to draw the line where excessive is, I guess if you can't have a normal conversation without saying it then it's too much. You should only use it when you're angry.
