Personally, I don’t have too many issues wearing a mask. I understand that they can slow/prevent the spread of the virus in some places for sometime, but they are of course not perfect.
In some instances, it doesn’t make sense to wear a mask.
Other instances, it can be MORE detrimental to one’s health wearing a mask than not wearing one.
Scientifically speaking, all sorts of reputable professionals in a variety of fields have had mixed feelings over the wearing of masks.
I think one issue that very few are talking about are the unintended consequences or effects of MANDATING wearing mask.
•Who knows what this can mean for future government rulings/mandates?
•Did this mandate create some sort of domino effect for future overreaching policies or laws?
In this time of a pandemic, what is your personal opinions on wearing masks and/or mask mandates?
Simple logic: if it doesn't prevent the spreading of Covid, mask-wearing accomplishes nothing positive. It makes it harder to read your face and understand your words, weakening clear communication and crippling the efforts of the deaf. It makes others see so as less human, because your face isn't visible. It does horrendous things to small children and babies. And it sends the message to authority figures that you'll do what you're told without questioning it.
If, on the other hand, it DOES prevent the spreading of Covid, then it slows the acquisition of herd immunity, lengthens the pandemic, and kills more people, with a huge increase in human misery along the way- how many people lived out their last years in isolation because of it? Covid is too mild and FAR too contagious to be contained or avoided; the only way out is through.
As an interesting side note, the Spanish flu epidemic of a century ago didn't have most of its deaths come from influenza, but from bacterial pneumonia, which was worsened by lack of immune system strength due to isolation, and aggravated by rebreathing contaminated air from the filthy breathing masks they wore. People were frightened and desperate, and followed the instructions of whatever serious-sounding authority figures they could find. Sound familiar? Even better- guess who wrote what's widely considered the seminal study on this particular topic?

One risk of all covid-related measures legislation is permanence of this legislation. Hence, it is rather important to use emergency laws for this that automatically would need to be re-confirmed every so often (in the Netherlands it is every 2 months as far as I know). If you have a healthy democratic system and opposition, this inherently limits the degree to which any mandate-related legislation continues to exist in the future.
The second biggest risk is that the attitude of people change, as in some measures even without covid would be acceptable/unacceptablr. But you can entirely argue that if you do not have these mandates in place and there may be a more traumatic experience with covid, they’d he willing to go further.
For example, towns in Northern Italy were flooded with military in March 2020 because so many people died there were no places in local cemeteries. The military had to transport them to central and southern Italy so people could be buried anywhere.
Obviously, even without mandates in place but such an experience can shape how people perceive what the government should be able to do, which may be far more permanent than any emergency legislation.
I'll wear it to avoid being bitched at by workers at like Walmart etc. But I don't like wearing it and don't think it does much to slow the spread of covid.
It's so funny when minimum wage workers are taking their job that serious and protesting for a mask but no energy to fight for higher reminds me of the Chicago Mayor all these harsh rules for covid but for continuous crime... nothing. The nerve of people.
What you are suggesting is sometimes called "the slippery slope." You take one step down the slope, you start sliding quickly down the slope, and it is impossible to change your course or direction.
I never put on a mask for COVID, because there was 40 years of scientific studies providing extremely clear evidence that they would not work. Best laboratory practices indicated that they were not useful for SARS variants over the past 10 years as well. I told people around January 15, of 2020 on this forum they would not work repeatedly. The evidence over time has proven mask mandates have no impact on the spread of COVID. The scientific evidence was clear before the pandemic. All the pandemic did is provide more scientific evidence to reinforce what was already known and showed that a shit ton of people are fucking dumb as hell and easily manipulated by the media to buy products and surrender their freedom out of fear driven propaganda.
I don't have an issue wearing one. For me the mandates are not really that big of a deal. But that very much comes from disconnecting from politics in general. Because no matter what one side says or does the other is going to throw a fit. So the fallout of the mandates for me is a reminded how politics can cause grown supposed adults to act like toddlers fighting over who get the last pieces of cake. At this point I half expect people on both sides to have a full on toddler melt down. Where they end up kicking and screaming on the floor.

In most Asia countries it's COMMON practice to always wear a face mask when out and about.
The problem is never face masks. The problem is people wearing the wrong or ill fitting face masks.
This is one reason among many the pandemic has spread to where it has. Fuckwits standing around letting things escalate instead of shutting up and working towards it's resolution.
These are the sorts of dipshits that stand around and argue with firemen about what they "must" save. When the house is already burning down.
The mask mandate on public transport, in shops/supermarkets in the UK has been withdrawn, even though they have been ignored since just before Christmas, the Government obviously came to the conclusion that you cannot scare anyone when they do not give hell any more, They only ones who want a mask mandate to stay in place ate teachers, who paradoxically can teach their classes unmasked.
I am totally against mask mandates. I do wear a mask in certain situations (ex: in the grocery store; entering a restaurant, mask comes off at the table) and try to maintain social distancing as much as I can.
Masks are harmful to wear that often and that long, they should not be mandated but if people really want to breath bad air in exchange for barely noticable protection go for it just don't mandate it.
I order my food so i don't have to deal with the ridiuclousness in stores as for work i just wear an American flag mask just to piss the commies off & i can't tell you how it hurts these SJW's souls to seee it.
People wearing masks are idiots. I will never follow mask mandates.

Well, depends on where you are.
Sometimes, complying with mask mandates is just the easier, more common sense, etc.
You’ll have to swallow your pride for a bit, I know I have to at times, but you have to be able to see the reasoning of wearing masks sometimes even if you do not want to.
