Are you in favour of/fine with zoos or against it or somewhere in between?

I'm in favor of good, well-run zoos - San Diego Zoo, for example.
What I do NOT appreciate:
A. the constant haranguing of what SOB's humans are about this animal, or that animal
B. the exorbitant prices of tickets- most of the time, you save money by getting a membership, which has a two-three visit break even in most cases. People who go only onesie-twosie get zonked with high ticket prices.
C. combine these points and the result is the people who support the zoo the most are the ones who get preached to the most, hardly productive in my mind.
I'm in favor of no zoo where the animals know they are captive and confined to small spaces.
Generally against for the simple reason many animals are not suited for small enclosed spaces and constantly being watched can be stressful for them. That's not to say we should close zoos but their should be better restrictions on what can be kept in various size enclosures.
As for the so called conservation work they do I can't see the point in saving a species if it can only exist in a cage.
I'm in favour and against, zoos can help keep species alive and educate people on the different animals. But I'm also against because of the way some are treated, they don't get to live the life they would in the wild. I think it's better somewhere in between.
Thank you for MHG. Xx

Depends on the "zoo". There are some zoos that go to great lengths to recreate the animal's old environment and to protect species, almost like a sanctuary. Steel and concrete zoos, they're old fashioned. Need to head to their proper place in history, alongside people zoos.
I went to a very small zoo once. They had only one dog. It was a Shitsu :)
I don't think that animal keeping in a zoo is the best way of life for the animals there. But in some cases that's the only way to save them from greater misery, or from extinction.
One version of a zoo is where they have just a small number of species, and on a large enough area. I can agree to THAT.
In between.
Zoos are sometimes the best way to preserve animals IF there are poachers in a particular place. Or illegal hunting.
If the zoo is small and I'll equipped, of course I'm against.
Animals can thrive in good zoos.
In favor, and strongly. There are many species that'd be extinct if not for them, and the ability to actually SEE wildlife is a big source of motivation for people contributing to campaigns for it.
in between... because some of them are sanctuaries for rescues, conservation and "bring-back-to the wild" as well as research places
it depends on the zoo I grew up with the San Diego Zoo, so I have seen the best zoo around along with the wild animal park they do research to save the endangered animals keep a gene pool most zoos are following their ways of doing things
Unsure. I have seen zoos where animals are completely listless and lying on the ground all day. Fcking gazelles. But when it comes to endangered, not sure.
Generally in favour as long as they're caring for the animals well.
Due to habits loss they have an important role to play in conservation.
As a like animal rescue thing, I’m for it, but for the poor conditions and exploitation, I’m against it
The trashy roadside zoos are plain evil. Like the one that Joe Exotic used to run
too many condescending people
I go to the mall, that's my zoo.
in between
