When it comes to self defense, do you believe one should truly wait for the police to come and help before they can act?

Depending on direction. The whole point is to make this home safer for my wife and kids, if the backdrop is right I'll open fire, if not I'm just hoping Jesus, someone saves my ass. Same goes for if a neighbor's house is the backdrop, really the only good ones are cars, dirt, or trees.

It's a family neighborhood, not a house in the hood like I've had in the past, there aren't any steel or lead lined walls, 2 inch thick plexiglass or anything. No matter what round I'm shooting, owens corning board, plywood, vinyl siding, sheet rock and possibly a 2x4 aren't stopping it.

Of course not. The police may take hours or not even respond until the following day. Even if they do respond they often make a mistake and shoot the victim. In other words, waiting for the police is never a a solution.

I wouldn't wait for the police. They're always busy and depending on how many units they have available, depends on when they get to you. A thug broke into my house once, and it took the police 20 minutes to come.

The punk thought he was going to steal from me. While he was in my cabinets stealing my trinkets, I hit him over the head with my baseball bat. I found out later, he had a pistol with him. Later, they charged him with breaking and entering, armed robbery for a firearm, and possession of an illegal firearm.

I think everyone should be allowed to defend themselves.

No. The police will *never* be faster than you are. Unless you have your own private security, this will always be the case.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't attempt to contact LEOs anyway, but waiting for them when your life and/or the lives of your family are in danger is folly.

It can't be "self-defence" if you aren't involved in the play. You should be calling the cops before doing anything anyway. Mainly as if you get shot and killed by the assailant at least the cops will find your corpse, if not the assailant in the act.

The law clearly states you are allowed to use reasonable and proportional force to defend yourself. However you should not deliberately put yourself in danger and must ease off once the threat has gone.

That's only in sane countries. In some states you can just say you felt threatened. Then, if a jury disagrees with you and convicts you of murder, the governor might say he'd like to pardon you.

That would mean the individual would have to wait and pray the person trying to do harm won't kill them or do something worse in the time it takes the cops to get there. Which is sad and foolish in my eyes.
