Can doctors actually use self defense against other humans/civillians?

Can doctors defend themselves or use self defense? Or no

will they even use it? Against anyone? If they can’t use self defense based on their own good judgement, could they only and be encouraged to use self defense from a self defense training taught by self defense professionals?

I think it's more about using privileged information. You have a personal grievance or are profiteering from someone, and you exploit that information. For example, if a bar fight happens and you know the person has a bad knee, cracking it backward beyond a reasonable assumption of the risk could be a case.

A big thing would be like sports injuries and making bets. Getting three scoops: the person getting help, selling the information, and betting on the sportsbook. I think this is more in the spirit of the meaning of "first, do no harm" than anything self-defense already forgives in the matter.

I think that as long as they aren't at work. Otherwise they will probably be fired.

I'm a nurse and I know that doctors, nurses and other health professionals can use self defense if it is needed. It's always to check and see if the facility has a policy on approved self defense techniques for non life threatening actions. With life threatening actions you do what you need to survive, however for non-life threatening actins sometimes there is an approved self defense class offered. I think it would depend on your region and circumstance. Common sense says yes, if someone else poses a threat to you and you respond symmetrically then that's all gravy regardless of your occupation.

Some major variables would be the regional laws, and bias because of race/nationality though. Kind of like thieves who successfully sue for an injury sustained breaking into a house depending on how the jury pool of that area leans.

If someone feels threatened, regardless of their profession, they can use any form of self defense that is necessary.

But in hospitals they aren’t aggressive. They actually have security. Even with aggressive patients they usually hold them down or medicate them maybe. Based on those points, is your answer the same?

People are invariably professional at work, I’ve played rugby against hospital uni teams and doctors are just as tough and vicious as everyone else.

Sure I won’t deny or disagree and it seems morally sound to defend but they make oaths isn’t everyone a potential patient or is it only for those under their care in a hospital setting?

Nurse here. I had a patient on my floor take a swing at the doctor while they were on rounds. Doctor and the PT had the patient half on the bed and half on the floor by the time I got there.

They aren't going to step aside if shit is going down. Still one of my favorite physicians I've worked with.

The question is daft. It's like the "pacifists" who refuse to defend themselves or their country because they don't understand the difference between "Don't kill" and "Don't commit murder" in the Ten Commandments original language.

This is about if they legally could inflict harm as a means of defense. In that attempt they could inflict more damage than a regular civilian because of the knowledge differences. Based on that I assumed they’d be held to a higher level of accountability.
