Valentine’s Day is coming up and I asked my boyfriend what he was getting me or what we were doing on that day. He had the audacity to say that I have to pay for our date to Olive Garden. What kinda shit it that! If I have to buy my own flowers and pay for my own date what do I need him for?

He should at least be able to give some flowers like damn.

My boyfriend has been doing this for months so we just stopped going out. I don’t want to pay for him and I all the time I rather just have fun with my friends or go back myself if that is the case.

A lot of people are calling my a gold digger in the comments. I must have to include that my boyfriend is retired with little to income. I am not out for his money he doesn’t have any. I work two jobs by the way.

Your boyfriend should be able to save some money and get you something, I understand where you’re coming from. The whole issue with your situation is that besides the fact that he’s a grown adult who has not made efforts in months to better himself financially. It also sounds like he’s not willing to invest time or work into you, I don't know if he’s lazy or doesn’t see much future in you but there’s plenty of free/low cost dates that will be just as romantic as a dinner. Any man that is genuinely in love will go above and beyond for you, my dad would grow flowers in our garden so they could be ready in time for my mom’s birthday each year and fill the whole house with vases before she woke up.

Thank you for understanding! He won’t make an effort to do anything. It’s like pulling teeth to get him to do anything nice for me. I paid for most of the dates that we went on through out the year he should be able to save $10 a month to take me out at least one time. Or to but me one flower. I dated a man like this and we had a child together, eventually he ended up putting a bit more effort in but it was always half ass. I’m no one to judge or tell you what to do but I will say this, not only was he half ass with me but he ended up doing this with our child. It was painful to watch our child get a half ass father figure and love. This is usually a trait taught so you could be dealing with his family being like this too.

the economy is shit. this is going to get even more common. if you work two jobs, and he has literally no job and little income, it's obvious you have to pay for dinner, and he can make you a homemade gift or something. it's just the way it has to be. if you don't like it...
