How to tell your ex to leave you alone nicely?

My ex keeps contacting me saying he loves me. I've told him before that I stopped loving him long after we broke up. I told him I loved him like a brother. I didn't cheat on him because we weren't official so I moved on to another guy. He finds out and says I cheated on him, but how can I cheat on him if our relationship was always a secret? We were fwbs and then I thought I was in love and we became sort of boyfriend/girlfriend until he said I cheated on him and called me every name in the book, which lead me to get over him quickly. We broke up like 2 years ago and dude is still irking me. He keeps saying we're going to get married and he proposed to me. I never gave him an answer but I told him I didn't want to get married. How the hell do I get rid of him?

Letting him know nicely isn't going to work. Tell him straight out that you don't love him any more and that you're tired of this game he's playing. Tell him to knock it off and move on. If he continues to harass you, block him. His number, e-mails/facebook and if he continues, threaten him with a court order. There's a line that can't be crossed, and he's on the brink of crossing it. You're going to have to woman up and just tell him "no". "no we're not getting marriied." "no I don't love you anymore... I stopped loving you two years ago." "no...etc..." He's being extremely childish, but he's also being invasive. I suggest when you do tell him, either tell him with a friend present (or two), or tell him over the phone or in a message.

I told him over the phone since he's in another state. I told him I don't love him and we're not getting married. He still didn't get the message. He said he wouldn't pressure me to get married but said he'll always love me and never stop loving me. I didn't say anything and just said goodbye.

Well you did what you can. The fact that you don't love him isn't going to force him to do the same, but then again, sometimes its a simple ploy to get you to change your mind. Just ignore him from this point on. Change your number if you need to.

I had a very difficult time letting go of the first girl I was in love with when I was 19. The simple fact is that you have to stop talking to him completely if you want to be left alone. It will hurt him but the truth is that he's hurting now because you're not reciprocating but you are still talking to him which sends the message that there's hope. Tell him what you just told some strangers on the internet.
