Why do I get a lot of people giving me weird looks on the street?

I'd just be walking thinking about stuff and literally (almost) EVERY person I walk by looks at me and when I look at them they quickly look down and act uncomfortable/awkward and the few brave ones just continue to look. Every Tom, Dick and Harry does it from old ladies to newborn babies (not really, but you get the point I hope).

Am I just too self-concious, is that why people stare at me? Is this normal/abnormal? Does this happen to you?
And my last question is WHY do people look at me so much? I'm not abnormal looking (well, at least I don't think so) and I don't dress especially flashy...

And if you're wondering how I know I'm being watched, my peripheral vision is really good and 99% of the time when I look at the person staring, I see them look away like I didn't notice in the first place.

People will stare at others for multiple reasons; it could be you expression, your appearance (I have bright, neon orange hair for example), it could be that they're fucking rude, or they may not even be staring at you; you could be taking passing glances as staring. Think about it: we all look at people, that's how we know they are there. If someone catches us, it could seem like we're staring.

They might be curious about an the outfit. Sometimes when I dress really nice guys seem to notice me and so do girls.

Pretty girls get stared at a LOT. Guys, because they feel good (not in 'that' way, it's a simple thing that happens when you see something cute or attractive). Girls, maybe for a similar reason (I cannot say for sure, because I don't know how girls feel) or maybe out of envy or they maybe checking you out to make a mental note of what makes you look good, which they can try later.
