Do guys not feel a “connection” in dating like women do? Do male brains view dating differently?

I’m asking because for example-
I’m seeing this guy for some months now. We’ve hung out for hours, had sex, just enjoyed each other’s company, yada yada.
I feel a connection between us, or at least I used that term, although now when I mention it I’m not entirely sure what that means but I really like him.

When i asked him if he felt a connection between us he paused and was like “maybe?” Followed by telling me he doesn’t view it like that, he doesn’t view love like a fairytale now that he’s 30. He said he enjoys being with me, he has a good time with me and I’m “really fun, cool, and really pretty” and he just views it as “do I like spending time with this person?” And if he does he just continues but he doesn’t view it as a magical experience.
Is this a typical male response? Was connection not the right word? Or is it a bad sign he said this?
