I've been friends with this guy for 5 years now. We went to highschool together but despite having many mutual friends we never met until years after. He moved several states away right before covid started and our friendship has just recently become sexual. He stayed over my place one weekend while he was in town. A couple months later we're now planning to meet halfway, which is an 8 hour drive and get a hotel. He wants to go out and explore the city, too, so it's not just sex.

Would a guy do all this if it was just sex and he didn't want something more? We don't talk about personal things. I don't know basic things about him, like if he has siblings or not. We're friends on social media but dont have eachothers phone number. We mostly send snaps of our cats and instagram reels daily for the last few years. I plan on talking to him about all this but just wanted an outsiders perspective.

It sounds like the sex is just an added bonus but to really know for sure you are going to have to talk to him and find out what his intentions are , He might just be taking things slow and not sure where you stand in all this , Most people just assume it’s worse then what it really is , especially nowadays on how selfish most people have become , so if you like this guy more that just fuck friends then you need to have a talk with him and see what his intentions really are , you got to remember you both aren’t mind readers so to really now for sure what someone’s intentions are you have to ask those questions to see where he really stands in all this , if it’s just fuck friends then that’s up to you if you want to continue seeing him , if he likes you more than just fuck friends he will let you know so don’t just assume the worst. Another thing is you both are long distance from each other so that long distance is hard because you can’t really see each other all the time , not saying it can’t work but for it to work you are going to have to make your phone conversations with him more serious and ask more questions about you and him to see what his intentions really are and what his plans are with you. Again he might be unsure of your intentions but to me it sounds like he really likes you , he just doesn’t want to over step his boundaries with you and ruin what he has with you. Most people have a harder time expressing what they really want out of someone so he might be thinking you just like him as a duck friend as well so to really know for sure you are going to have to question his ass

We're able to call or talk to eachother so I never gave it a thought til recently. Im ok with just sex but he could have sex with anyone in his state, thats why im confused on the driving 8hrs away, spending money on a hotel for a weekend fling part.

Sounds like you’re in the early stages of figuring it out. If his whole purpose for being with you is sex, you have the possible answer right there. If he invests time with you doing other things and has a general interest in getting to know you, then you have an actual relationship.

I think the fact that he is willing to drive for so long means that he wants to more than a friends with benefits. It is early in the relationship so it may feel like just a friends with benefits situation. Hopefully things will go well and get more steady so you two can figure out how to live together.
