My boyfriend of a year still hasn’t told me that he loves me yet. I told him before that I would wait for marriage as long as our relationship is progressing. He’s afraid if he says those words that means we have to get married right away. I gave him a card for his birthday that said I love you in it. His reply was awwww that’s so sweet of you. Does he show that he loves you with his actions? Does it feel like he loves you? I know that men are wired differently and some have a hard time saying the word so instead they express it. If he isn’t showing his love then that’s a problem, because then you’re dealing with an emotionally unavailable man. I don't know how you’d be able to even talk about marriage when you have even gotten an “I love you”. Better yet, why does he see that word as a trap? As if it obligated him to marry you and even that is a harsh word.

He does so much for me. Takes care of me. Takes me places that he’s not really interested in going because he knows it will make me happy. He’s very affectionate. I feel like he loves me because of the way he is with me. He said he’s treats me better than any other woman he’s been with. He’s been married twice and sees marriage as something as doesn’t last and doesn’t work. I told him when you’re with the right person then marriage is beautiful.

If he’s showing that he loves you with his actions then I’d say that’s better than nothing, because actions matter more than words at the end of the day. However, I think there’s a much bigger issue at hand. He’s been married twice, and it really sounds like he doesn’t wanna do it a 3rd time. You can’t understand that if you’ve never been married, so for you it is this beautiful thing but for him it’s not. There are some things in relationships you can compromise about, but marriage and pregnancy shouldn’t be one of them. Would you stay with him, knowing you won’t get a ring unless you drag it out of him? Is that the blissful love story you want for your family in the future? “Daddy didn’t really wanna get married but once I gave him an ultimatum and he was afraid of losing me, he threw in the towel and finally agreed”? That’s no good.

Make a deadline and be prepared to move on.
He either loves you and is in love with you or he isn't.
Never once when I told someone that I loved them that I thought I would have to marry them that weekend.
So the decision is yours to make so don't set ultimatum if you are not prepared to go through with them.
It isn't an easy thing to do, but it is very hard, and probably unhealthy to be in a 1 sided relationship with someone.
You deserve to be treated better than that.
