Can you fall in love with someone the same day you meet them?

I know a couple who did this.

Met one night, hit it off and by morning they were an official couple. One week later, they were engaged, and a whopping month later they were married.

Their relatives and friends weren't very sure about it, but six years later those two are very happily married and have just got their own house, with the express intention of start making children like rabbits.

I don't believe in love at first sight. If you meet someone and instantly think you are in love. . . what is it that you love about them? The only thing you know is how they look, and that feeling is called lust. If you could fall IN love that quickly, then you could fall OUT of love just as quickly. That's not love; perhaps it is infatuation but not love.

Occasionally, couples come together, as did your friends, and they instantly commit to becoming a couple. Sometimes, they want to think that it is "magic" that they instantly fell in love, but most likely, they were both ready to settle into a relationship, they felt immediate physical attraction, they both committed themselves to the idea of making it work, and they succeeded. But I suspect that what they felt after they had been together for a year is not the very same thing they felt the first day they met.

@OlderAndWiser Physical attraction isn't always lust. If I see a pretty Amish girl and I am attracted to her and want to ask her out, is that lust? I think not. (Yes, I know it's an extreme example, but I'm just trying to make a point.)

Most of the time, things don’t go that smoothly.


It’s like marrying your very first boyfriend or girlfriend.


For some, it has worked out very well.


For most, their first relationship didn’t last because one or both of them weren’t right for each other.


I’d say the couple you described were infatuated with each other, committed themselves to each other, and the love slowly began to grow and mature, and it never wore off, because their infatuation was replaced with real love and passion.


They were lucky to have everything work out like a carefully placed row of dominoes, perfectly positioned for a smooth chain reaction.

Many times, people get into relationships with people that aren’t as compatible with them (or aren’t as compatible as they thought), and they clash later down the road.

Also knew a couple who couldn't stand each other when they first met and now they too are happily married.

Whether your initial impression is good or bad, what matters is down the road, how compatible are you truly?

What you mentioned also makes a case for matchmakers.

In theory, if say a matchmaker is truly skilled at knowing exactly what type of person would be perfect for who, they could pair people who don’t know each other and they may end up very happily married.

But, good for them. There’s too much heartbreak happening around the world, so it’s nice to see a couple thrive.

If there’s no interaction then it’s just sexual/physical attraction.

• People can love looking at things, or love things because of their looks.
• Bird watchers loving to watch birds.
  Some people love purposeless jewelry, for their appearance and shimmer.

Even if the two fall in love because they have a great interaction and love the appearance of each other. They still have to take time to get to know each other and interact more, otherwise with time, they may find things they don’t like about the other and depending on what those individual dislikes may be, some or one of those can be a cause for concern, hurtful/harmful to one or both partners, and thus a dealbreaker.

It’s called chemistry for a reason, and chemistry mixed with the added attraction is love.

How long will that chemical reaction last? Will it blend? Or will it fizz out? It depends on the core components of each variable/member and what their “end product” aka their future/life goals will be.

This helps them determine/decide if they will be together or not.

I believe in "Twin Flames" because it happened to me.

Have you ever gone through life with the feeling that there is that special someone out there, somewhere, but you just haven't met yet? Then one day you do meet and you feel as though you reconnected with the person that had always yet to be found.
It does happen. Like that person is the other half of you and you finally found each other. Then it's like you already know each other, so you don't have to go to try and find anyone else. You found your twin flame and you knew it!

My sister did this. She went on an overseas vacation with a friend, bumped into a guy from Australia doing the same thing, immediately hit it off, changed their plans the next morning to travel around with each other, one week later they were engaged and a little over 2 months after that they were married. They're 11 years in and happily married with 3 kids.

Oh and by complete luck or fate or whatever, we managed to track down footage of them playing together on a bouncy castle at a carnival in New Zealand way back when they were 13 years old, over a decade before they crossed paths again.

It gets better tho, his family connected really well with ours and 2 years later his younger brother married one of my other sisters.

Love is a higher emotion and needs time to appear. That's why the first months are called infatuation, when we are blind to any negative traits of the other person. But if both partners feel the same and will take care of the relationship during crises, love will follow.

Absolutely not. Actual time takes time to accrue. Lust or infatuation is a different matter. Perhaps this is the reason for so many breakups and divorces. Real love lasts. Fake love you can fall out of just as fast as you can fall into. Just look at the divorce statistics. These people you vowed to love and to cherish from this day forward seems to be nothing but a farce.

You can do this, but more often than not this represents a chemical reaction to sexual attraction. This will wear off in a few days or maybe a week and then you'll be stuck with something that you don't know what to do with. It's best not to react to these kinds of feelings or take them too seriously unless they persist for a very long time.

It's probably the rare case of meeting a true kindred spirit.. Somebody you connect with so well, that you don't need long to figure out if you guys want to spend maybe the rest of your lives together with each other.. I think everybody experiences this a few times in their lives, but few people act on it and let it pass by.. Love is meant to grow, which it did for them..

Some have worked out, others have not, again after you get to know them.

As far as looks she was almost exactly what I always pictured in an ideal partner.

Personality, also just what I was looking for. She was humble, quiet, shy, a little dorky, but would open up a lot once you got her on a subject she liked.
