Have you ever mentored someone at work? How was it for you?

It's actually quite sweet the apprentices, dual students and the people who are just learning this Job always run to me with their questions.
There is an official supervisor for them but still they rather ask me for help, cause they don't seem to like the other person lol

I will take this as an compliment, but it's a lot of work and I do have to stay longer when I get to busy with explaining tho
And I hope I do it right lol

Yes about 5 times now within these last two years. The first experience with with an old church mate. I imagined she’d still be shy and sweet like all those years ago. Nope. Mind you she was the cousin of the crazy school bully Raja. She used to bully both me and the girl so apparently that did something mentally to the girl. One day, a client snapped on her and she got mad that i couldn't jump in to deescalate the situation. So she ended up calling me the B word and threatened to beat my ass all shift. I stood my ground but stayed professional while others watched. Extremely embarrassing moment. I was assigned someone new. The others i mentored were lazy and didn't want to do anything. Then last year I was assigned the psycho who kept flicking a lighter at my shirt saying she wanted to burn the whole building down for fcking up her check. So yea, i’ve apparently mentored slackers and psychos. They may be crazy but at least they know what to do on the job now 🤣

This is why i’ve turned down all the promotions that would cause me to have to mentor daily rather than the mandatory 1-3 months a year

Especially ones who are interested in getting a athletic scholarship

it was okay for me
some of them didn't want to do much work when i was not around so they were fired
others were cool and really liked me as a mentor
it is a lot of extra work but my ceo told me to work less when mentoring

Yes, quite a few teams now - and some of those are fresh graduates.
It's tough, especially back when I still have deadlines to meet. lol

I try to live up to the saying "be the senior you needed as a junior".

A few times, it's fun to have someone dedicated to talk to, never had an annoying person to mentor though. I'm good at what I do, so they tend to appreciate me

Lol maybe its cause im shorter than them and i smile all the time and come across as sweet. But when i stand my ground, im like a little chihuaha 🤣 I didn't want to fight that girl but outside of the workplace, she could get it. Long as she didn't bring Raja cause i wouldve been dead 🤣 Raja is like Ethiopian military type crazy

It's been so long, but yes, I think that almost any managerial "post" would require such mentorship, would it not?

Yeah. Usually 20% are okay and the rest are too incompetent to do what I am teaching them

Yes it takes time I always let them watch me the first day
Than next day let them do it help if they ask best way to
learn hands on but I do enjoy helping if it wrong
