Please note: this was a post I saw on a Facebook page shared from another post. People are acting like I'm the one who took the picture, when you can tell I had blocked out the persons name 🤨 they already had been roasted by enough people for doing that in the first place.
You may think it's a stupid question but it isn't really when a lot of you have different perspectives on matter.
How would you react to this lady breastfeeding in the aisle?
Voted "other" but tilt to "she should have gone somewhere else."
For the most part, I tend to be rather traditional, but I have to admit that public breastfeeding bothers me not at all. A baby needs his/her mother for nourishment. It is not sexual and breastfeeding is perfectly healthy and natural.
The lady in the photo was careful to keep covered up and she certainly was trying to be considerate of others while caring for her baby. Really don't - prima facie - see a problem there and, if fact, I sort of see it as tender and loving.
Have to say, silly as it might sound, when my girlfriend was breastfeeding our children I loved to watch. There was something beautiful and deeply emotional about it and it touched me in a deeply emotional way. There was my baby and the woman I love, together. It just move me,
That said, there is a cultural consensus and standards and it is not up to us to flout those standards just because we want to. Particularly when she had options. (Bring a bottle. Go out to the car, etc.)
To be sure, the woman did not commit the crime of the century. By the same token, she effectively was demanding that the rest of the world adapt to her wants and needs and the devil take the hindmost. That is unfair and frankly, in its way, arrogant.
My girlfriend breastfed a few times more or less in public. For example, we were in a park near our home and the baby grew fussy. So we went to a secluded spot and fed the baby. It was beautiful and natural for me to watch - but even there we did not make that decision for others. It was a secluded spot in the park.
Not to mention that the lady in the photo sat down in the middle of a store aisle. At the very least, that poses some serious safety issues. If someone had come around the aisle with a cart and not noticed her, bad things could have followed.
So, as I say, I voted "other" to allow for my own tolerances. However, overall, the lady - if as I say not committing the crime of the century - was being arrogant and reckless. Not the best standard of motherhood.
I see no negative thing with a woman breastfeeding in public, even in a shop. I think it was very inconsiderate and also rude to take a picture of her without consent, to go further by complaining about it as well, that is ridiculous.
Obviously I have to be honest and say that if I saw breasts just out completely, I would likely get a erection, but I would try to avoid looking and also in most situations when a woman is breastfeeding, they don't take their whole breast out for everyone to see them, so I see no reason to find it so big of an issue.
The only thing that I might of interacted with her about is if there was a product I wanted to get from the shelf she was in front of, other than that I have no complaints, it is a natural thing and we shouldn't try to shame them for doing it.
It is certainly a inconvenient place for her to have to breastfeed, but it has to be done if the child is hungry.
Also, while you are not Legally required to ask permission to take pictures of others in public, they can report you for taking pictures of you without your consent since they may be used for bad intentions, this post is a good example of that, the person has posted a picture of a woman with her breast out and shamed her about it, the face isn't even blurred either.
As a woman, i personally would NOT be comfortable whipping out my boob in the isle of walmart. For my own comfort i would probably even go to a fitting room (even I don't have something to try on). For my own privacy I dont expose my breasts in public not even to feed my child. Because there can be an argument that breastfeeding is natural, there are still perverted creeps who might be watching. I don't need some pig getting off because I'm feeding my baby in public. At the very least i personally would drape something over me so my boob isn't seen
People seriously need to mind their business. Is she supposed to let the baby starve to appease oversensitive individuals? If the baby cries they will complain and give dirty looks. She feeds the baby and prevents crying and still gets dirty looks. Humanity is definitely doomed. 😩
I have no issue with people breastfeeding their babies in public. There are times when the babies are hungry and she needs to feed them and I wouldn't do it in a dirty bathroom anyway.
What I don't understand is how people have an issue with this but don't have an issue with people bringing their gross animals (NOT service animals) into restaurants, convenience stores, Wal-marts etc.
All the people complaining about her sitting on the floor? What if it was the best position for her to get something from the shelf? What if the baby kept moving or crying to the point that it was the best way to the child to feed and she didn't want to disturb them?
These are the same people who would bitch if they heard children crying loudly and admonish her for "not taking care of her baby". How about YOU have some empathy about what she might be going through instead of SELFISHLY thinking of yourselves (which you're projecting onto her)? She's not blocking the aisle: she is literally on one side. She isn't trying to make anyone uncomfortable: she likely will avoid eye contact or give a simple smile to avoid any potential awkwardness. If you ever found yourself in this situation, would you want to be demeaned like you're doing to her?
I did not take the photo. However the person who did, got roasted to hell but I knew there would be some people on here that would have a similar mind set to the OP and some opposite.
Oh I know you didn’t. I see both sides but honestly, she’s feeding her kid. It is so ridiculous and a first world problem that some man indicated. There is nothing wrong with doing it.
The right thing to do is to mind one's own business, and leave the breast feeding be. Breasts are structures which allow feeding of neonates and infants. It is humans, society, that think breasts are primarily for men to play with. As for going into a restroom; if you are comfortable eating in the bathroom in your life, then you might have a point. If you can't quite see yourself eating your supper while sitting on the toilet, then how do you expect it to be right to feed one's child in that environment? How would I react? Easy. Give the woman space, maybe ask if there is anything I can do to help make feeding easier, and ultimately turn around and deal with my own life. Breast feeding is natural. It is the narrow misguided and miseducated minds of people that make it otherwise.
@MysteriousDarkness That would have been better than sitting on the floor. I heartily agree that sitting on the bench at the front of the store would have been more comfortable from a sitting standpoint. Healthier too. In my first writing, I missed the 'sitting on the floor in the aisle' part.
I don't mind breastfeeding in public, but she just sat down in the middle of the aisle, she is in the way and needlessly dragging attention towards herself. I've seen women breastfeeding in stores before but they usually have a poncho and/or walk to a bench/washroom that is out of the way. Sitting down in the middle of the aisle like that seems rather inappropriate to me. I understand it's part of motherhood, but that doesn't mean you can just do it anywhere. For example, it would also be inappropriate to breast feed in the middle of a resteraunt, and it would be inappropriate to walk up to someone and just start breastfeeding right in front of them.
I don't think anybody was in the wrong because ultimately it's a matter of opinion. The mother has a right to breastfeed where she wants. Taking care of small children is fucking hard work. Especially when you have more than one under the age of five. She has her reasons for doing it there and I'm not going to judge her. The person who took the picture has the right to be offended, but ultimately that's their own problem. They really need to grow up and look within rather than judging others. I think this is more of a situation where a person should empathize with the ridiculous hard work that mothers do.
I also think this is a situation where the person should grow up and not be afraid of boobs. Seriously, it's 2020. Why are there still Puritans left? It makes no sense to be offended by body parts. Even if you are conservative and religious... A lot of people believe that their God made them in His image. So how could things like penises, vaginas, and breasts be evil?
The person who took the picture is wrong but it's also something where I beileve breasts should be covered with a towel or handkerchief, it's not asking much especially if you already know you are breastfeeding them to keep one with you
It’s a pity the lady had to feed her baby on a floor between two isles. Some bigger malls here have nursing area’s, a couple of comfy chairs in a more quit place of the mall.
We never ask women here to nurse in the toilets or to cover up. It would be considered extremely rude to even address her about it.

I'd probably smile at her and continue with my shopping. If she feels like that's the most comfortable nearby place for her to feed a hungry baby, I think that's her choice. As long as she's not interfering with other people doing their shopping I have no problem with it. Hopefully she'd move a bit if another shopper wanted to get to some of the products on the shelf she's sitting in front of.
Both. Breastfeeding in public is fine. But sitting in the aisle, causing an obstruction is rather selfish. Taking a picture is a rather creepy. If it's true as implied that a comoany the size of Wal-Mart dosen't provide a baby change/feed room thats pretty bad on their part
Breastfeeding in public should not be looked at as something bad as it is just a natural process of life. I do think the lady in the picture did pick a very unusual place to feed her child, but we also don't know the circumstances when she did it. The asshole who took the picture should be totally ashamed of themselves
The only thing wrong here is that this is actually a discussable topic. Like 102 people including me have answered so far. I mean seriously she's feeding her kid she has no control over when is the time for that. As for the one who took the photo well its a dick move but also not exactly something I can blame him for he just snapped a shot of a woman feeding her child.

But the question was how would I react to the lady breast feeding and all I'm saying is it should be ok for her to do so and not stand out for doing something weird that calls for a photo. Bathrooms are disgusting places to breastfeed. I did it one time and vowed never to do it again. I was pretty discreet but sometimes there just isn't a good place to breastfeed. One can ask to use dressing rooms, etc. The thing is that women were made to feed their babies and since we have the food not feeding our kids isn't always an option. Most moms try their best to breastfeed before they go shopping but if the baby is having a growth spurt they just get hungrier faster and some babies breastfeed to go to sleep.
Definitely wasn't minding own business it seems. If you hate it so much just don't look at all. Fucking give these mothers a break.
Most often babies tend to get hungry so much or so often they won't stop crying. Would you have liked having a baby cry the entire time. ? Fuck this softie snowflakes.
In my opinion and my wife and daughter that has a 5 month old infant. I do watch my granddaughter regularly 2x or more a week while my daughter and her husband are working. There is a time and place for everything. On the dirty floor in a supermarket is not sanitary or the place for it. Babies are susceptible to contract fatal diseases up until they are 1 year old when there immune system is more developed. Babies are a full time job. Typically most babies are on a feeding schedule that is suitable for the baby. As a parent you should know when that is and be able to avoid this situation. Most moms carry a pacifier or a bottle with breast milk or formula as a supplement until there are in a cleaner or more appropriate place to breastfeed their baby.
The woman feeding her baby in the aisle is pretty ignorant tbh. I don’t mind breastfeeding a hungry baby when and wherever needed. But to plant your ass on the floor while others are trying to shop is fucking incredibly selfish. Get off the floor you cow. There are other people in the world besides you. Ffs
If done discreetly, I don’t have a problem with it. It should be mandatory to learn basic etiquette for breast feeding in public... They have special nursing clothes even... with buttons or snaps or hooks with flaps and ties to avoid embarrassing situations.
Honestly it isn't a big deal. So she fed her kid, the photo is ALSO not a big deal. Anything in public view is public domain if she didn't want the photo taken she shouldn't have bared her breasts in public. People seem to forget if you are around other people you have no expectation of privacy. You can do whatever it is you want, but you can't expect others not to react.

Well she could have at least made a fort in the toilet paper aisle and breastfed in there 😆😆😆 no but really leave her alone. Sitting down in a store aisle is just inappropriate unless it's due to illness or injury. I support moms breastfeeding in public spaces but not sitting in a store aisle.
It's a natural sth. In My country there's nothing like feeding bottle, even if there's, very limited. So majority of the time, you see mothers breastfeeding their babies. It is done so often and public that most guys don't get any sexual rise when they see bare breasts anymore, myself included.

The op shouldn't had taken a picture and posted it. The lady was just feeding her baby and this other lady wants the whole world to think bad about her. However the lady who was breastfeeding her baby, should've had a blanket to cover self because, they are perverted men who would take a picture but for other reasons. I once knew this girl at my old workplace and she came in feeding her baby and forgot she was feeding her baby and he let go of you get my drift. First off its not safe to be breastfeeding in the middle of the aisle. It's better to sit where can keep the aisles free in case of an emergency. Second the person taking the picture should have not done so. That is rude and they have no right to take someone's picture without their permission.

I'm in the middle. The guy shouldn't have taken the photo, but at the same time, the lady should've went somewhere else. I'm not like most guys and I sexualize breastfeeding, but just think about it. Breastfeeding is natural and that's why some women do it in public. For teen boys, masturbating is natural. If I were to start doing that in the back of the store, everyone would be calling me nasty and weird for doing something that is natural. But when a mother is breastfeeding in public, all of a sudden people are accepting of it. It low-key is a double standard.
Not the best place to do it but yet again another person thinking they are entitled to sit there ass down where ever and whip there tit out and breastfeed. im not against breastfeeding but have some decency and respect others around you if not for others have some for yourself.

For me it's not a problem and I believe it's normal for this lady to breast feed her baby in public. Afterall babies aren't like adult humans, they cry a lot whenever they feel very hungry. If there are people who don't want to see her breast feeding the baby in public, well they might be right aswell since these mom's can find somewhere more private but who knows maybe it was immediate for her to feed the baby.

She's definitely was not showing to much but it would be nice if stores/malls had a section just for pregnant old and disabled people so they can rest.

It is a natural thing I don't give AF. I have breatfed literally everywhere. Only difference was I wore a carrier, a wrap so I could do it discretely everywhere, I woukd have felt weird and uncomfortable to sit down in the middle a place like that and brestfeed but I dont care about her doing it.
Not really the best place, but it doesn't bother, or offend me. Some cultures, maybe are much more open, and in places like this, it is 'normal'. I've seen women nursing in restaurants, and it seemed totally normal and didn't bother me at all!
Breast feeding is perfectly natural and right. Often it can be quite touching to witness. The one problem with it, for a bloke of a certain age, is the possibility of being thought to smile for unworthy reasons.
I have no problem with breastfeeding in public if the baby needs it. I fully support it. Its completely natural but breastfeeding an older child could have waited. The child wasn't going to die. Most women who do it in public do it without looking for attention. Some definitely do.
Same as with a pregnant woman I worked with. She wore clothes to deliberately advertise she's pregnant. She didn't deny it either. Women in the office were getting upset with her.
Both options are right. Breast feeding should not be done everywhere, and before the "Its natural, stop being an a$$" comments come, it is natural. You shouldn't be eating everywhere either. A supermarket isn't a place where 2 kids should be breastfed and he shouldn't have made a post, because let's face it, that's unnecessary.
