Is it good to be called wife material?

Is it a good thing to be called that?

Obviously, it's a good thing, but is it really good to be called that when you're only 18-20 years of age?

I don't know, to me it sounds like the girl being called that is too responsible when she's actually supposed to be having fun during her teen years.

I have gotten called wife material before and I'm only 19. Even when I was 18.

I'm not complaining or anything, just stating thoughts.

If I called a woman wife material, it would definitely be as a compliment. See, to me, there are two types of women: the ones you want to meet your parents and family regardless of whether you're dating or just platonic friends, and the ones you just can't take seriously, no matter how hard you may try.

That said, I like to think of all of my female friends as "wife material" for their boyfriends (and good thing too, because I'm close friends with most of my female friends' boyfriends, and want my buddies to have quality women in their lives!), or future boyfriends, because they're all spectacular human beings.

As far as I personally go with my dating objectives (I make it sound like a planned-out, almost militaristic thing, haha), I'd never go for anyone I didn't feel was "wife material." In my mind, that term refers simply to someone who's an all-around quality woman, who at the end of the day you get along with in every way, shape, and form - whether or not you'll actually be "together" or not.

It's a good thing, but just remember this. What you do during your party years will effect you in your relationships later. You can say "it shouldn't matter", or just plain lie, but that's not a good foundation for a relationship. Trust me from experience.

"Wife material", in my opinion, is a woman that is ready to settle down and maybe even ready to have a family. I think I'd know she's responsible, trustworthy, good with finances, educated, and the usual qualities you'd find with someone that you not only love, but also you consider your best friend.

In my opinion, it just depends on the person saying it.  For the most part, that phrase typically means that he feels you are a keeper.  But he is the one that is not ready to keep you yet. He wants to "explore his options" and hope that his compliment will keep you waiting for him when he is done being a whore.  And then there are the ones that say they feel they don't deserve you because you're too good for them. "wife material" And they are not ready to settle down. But one of these days, a guy is going to sweep you off your feet and show you how much he appreciates your wife qualities... You are not too young... The men that say this are just not as mature as you!  :D

TOTALLY get what you're saying, but I figure I won't marry a person who'd have thought it was lame and not looked back and said "oh, yeah that was a dumb thing to think". Or thought it in the first place. Come full circle- sorry, I know that was confusing- the opinion of the person saying it isn't worth taking seriously because they're either just young and stupid, or they'll always be of that mind and they're just dumb, in which case you shouldn't care about their opinion at all.

It's definitely good. I would take it as a compliment. It means that you are a person that someone can see worthy of waking up to everyday for the rest of their lives. You don't have to take it seriously, just take it like you are on the right track to becoming a woman that any man would be lucky to be with.

ya I feel the same way, people say this to me all the time too (I'm 19 too)but sometimes I feel it's like saying "you're wife material, but we're just having fun now, we'll get back to you later" and that sucks. I know it's supposed to be a compliment but sometimes it's just hard to take it as one

IMHO, 18 or 19 is a tad young to be called wife-material" but in some religions and communities people marry younger than elsewhere.

If I said it, it would be very positive, meaning you're a person one can trust and who has a personality and intelligence one could live with.

But that's me and me only, of course.

It is a compliment because that means you're the complete opposite of a whore with no respect for herself, but then again it can be stifling because usually wife material girls seem boring and docile. I'd like to be somewhere in the middle.
