I met this guy during classes together. He's... a little fat. But sweet. He was trying so hard to flirt with me and I thought it was cute. But after a few months of this, he sees me talking to another guy from a different class. He was pretty built and well, hot. But he was a complete douche that was full of himself. Had me cornered up against the wall with one arm by my head. Trying to be smooth and all that. Then my friend who was flirting with me saw that. And ever since then he stopped flirting with me. Even though I told him what happened. Not because he asked or that I felt like I needed to explain anything to him. It was just a funny story to talk about.

Welp, he probably is not very confident about himself. A lot of times, when guys like him see girls like you just somewhat intimate, he will think you guys are better off together. He probably won't say anything and will just fade away from you as if you guys never met.

It's very difficult since you cannot control the actions of everyone. He seems like the type that is pretty nice but is insecure due to his self-image. The best thing you can do if you do like him is to just hang around him. You guys do not need to do anything crazy. Just you being near him is good enough. You guys can just walk together, eat lunch or something. He will get more relaxed near you. Basically, reassurance. :)

I think I know why. This guy seems like he was into you, then when he saw you flirting with the muscular guy he assumed you wanted him instead. Generally muscular guys look better than overweight guys so, it's safe to say he's insecure about his looks. It's nothing personal against you of course it's just that us guys know that the competition is tough.
