He wants to be casual but still monopolize you because he's a jealous type. He won't like your guy friends or the idea of you fucking other men, but he also doesn't want to tie himself down and be in a committed relationship. I've never liked jealous types so personally I would try to make the boundaries clear with them to define the relationship, and if they don't like your boundaries then call it quits.
I think he's more likely to make it casual *because* of that stuff. So it could be the other way around, he might have been interested in more, but as a guy you give up on that if she's *too* friendly with other guys. Respect for her diminishes, and so you decide to keep it casual with her.
