My boyfriend whose 32 gets explosive angry when he plays ranked competitive shooters. If he loses more than once in a row, he will throw stuff, scream and cuss, then pout around the house slamming doors and things down and act very irritable. Sometimes he breaks things. I kinda wanna leave the house when he’s in that mood. He never hurts me, but I’m worried this isn’t healthy and maybe signs of an underlying issue? It’s hard being on the outside and feeling like I can’t do anything to help because he doesn’t want it.
No, this is not a normal or healthy behavior. It sounds like your boyfriend has anger management issues that are triggered when he plays competitive shooters. While it's understandable to feel frustrated or disappointed when losing a game, it's not okay to express that frustration through violent or destructive behavior.
It's important to prioritize your own safety and well-being in this situation. If you feel scared or uncomfortable around your boyfriend when he is in this mood, it may be best to leave the house or take steps to protect yourself until he has calmed down. It's also important to communicate with him about how his behavior is impacting you and your relationship, and express your concerns in a non-judgmental and supportive way.
If your boyfriend is open to it, he may benefit from seeking professional help to address his anger management issues. This could include therapy or counseling, anger management classes, or other interventions. However, it's ultimately up to him to recognize and take responsibility for his behavior and make the decision to seek help.
Remember that you deserve to be in a safe and healthy relationship, and it's okay to prioritize your own well-being and set boundaries around unacceptable behavior.
