When a man doesn't defend his girlfriend when his friend insults her?

My boyfriends friend was very insulting to me in front of my boyfriend. He was saying females who wear makeup are liars because it's not the real them. I had makeup on so felt this was a direct insult to me. I was so upset I had to leave the room as he just wouldn't let the subject drop. After the discussion I told my boyfriend I was hurt by his friends comments and he just shrugged and said his mate didn't mean any harm and I was just over sensitive and insecure. I didn't want him to row with his friend. I just wanted him to say something like.. It was a bit out of order saying he thought girls who wear makeup are liars because it's not the real them when I was wearing makeup

p.s... I'm not looking for your views on girls wearing makeup... I'm asking why you think he didn't defend me, by saying to his friend that he was out of order saying that to his gf who is wearing makeup

Does your boyfriend generally lack a back bone? Is he passive? Does he not use his voice and defend things he should? That's probably the true source of why he didn't stick up for you. That's not cool. No girl wants a coward for a boyfriend. Even if he did agree with his friend to some extent, he shouldn't have let his "friend" berrade you and single you out like that because that's disrespectful.

However, you do seem to be portraying hyper-sensitivity and insecurity. That comment wouldn't bother me all that much and personally, I think you should have had a back bone of yourself and gotten a little fiesty instead of just sitting there and letting some guy make you feel like a victim. I would have handled that situation by saying "Not all girls who wear make-up are 'liars'. Make-up is fun to play with, why do you think drag queens get so crazy with it?" You gotta have thicker skin, girl.

I definitely held my own.. I came back at him with comments like... why do you cut your hair and not let it grow.. NATURALLY! but he just kept going on and on about how wearing makeup makes a girl a liar!

Your boyfriend is wrong! HE is suppose to be your defense! He could of AT LEAST said something simple like " well, i'm lucky my girlfriend is beautiful without makeup too" or some smarty comment back. Men say they don't like makeup, but always liking the "fake" air brush looking chick. Makeup is awesome, just that some girls over do it thats probably what your bf friend was trying to say, but said it in the wrong way. Some girls don't understand that makeup is suppose to enhance beauty, and not by looking like a complete clown. Natural Make up is certainly a plus :)

I guess he just couldn't deny the argument because it was true and he wouldn't and couldn't lie for you so he remained silent to support you as best as possible that is already a lot.

this isn't a question about makeup, it's about a man insulting his gf's woman in front of him.. if my friend was giving a thousand reasons on why men were fake with tattoos and my bf had tattoos. I would tell my friend she was being rude at the very least!

It doesn't work like that. If the argument was that men with tatoos would get more cancer and he was pumping evidence at you how at average certain inks used in the past and still used contain cancerogenic substances you wouldn't just jump in and say that's rude because saying the truth and suggesting important evidence is never rude it is always rather obliging. If he was making a valid point (which I am sure he likely did) then it would be inappropriate and shameful to just say 'rude' or be overly protective it would be very bad discussion manners.

You are overreacting. And yes that is how guys think. Makeup is covering and enhancement. Guys don't use it so we look down on it.
