Most of the recommendations here don't actually work.
They're homeopathy remedies that lack scientific evidence.
The truth is, once you contract a cold or flu, there's very little you can do to recover faster. Certain drugs and medication can reduce the symptoms and make life a little more comfortable, but duration is pretty much dependent on your immune system and how quickly it can form the antigens necessary to fight off the infection.
Some suggestions to improve your comfort level:
1. Drink lots of hot water. If you have a coffee maker, just keep it going with hot water all day long.
2. Sleep less. Did you notice you feel worse the moment you wake up? Your throats on fire as you tip your head back and sleep as it just allows bacteria and crap to grow all night from your depressed immune system. Stay awake, stay upright, and drink lots of fluids to keep flushing out the body.
3. Take max strength acetaminophen (Tylenol) and ibuprofen at the same time. They work differently, but both are painkillers. Use them if you get a fever of joint chills. However, if you're taking other medication (like cough syrup or Neo Citran) make sure these don't already have acetaminophen in them, or you could be doubling or tripling the recommended dose.
4. Stay warm. Got an electric blanket? Curl under the sheets, crank up the heat. When you have a cold/flu, low temperatures are more uncomfortable, while heat and hot showers tend to feel really good.

I drank a tea of 1 tablespoon apple cyder vinigar + ceyanne (as much as you can tolerate in a tea) + 1 teaspoon of chopped ginger + honey. 2 time a day.
Also take 5,000 IU vitamin D /day, 1000mg vitamin C /3 times a day.
It decreased the symptoms a lot.
On a full stomach, grate up a clove of garlic and a small piece of onion (enough to fill a teaspoon), and let them sit for like 10 minutes (The air activates the allicin which fights colds). Then put the grated garlic and onion on a spoon and swallow it really quickly (it's gross so you don't want it sitting in your mouth. Drink a tall glass of water afterwards. Do this once a day until you feel better :)
Take Vitamin C and also get lots of rest. If you have to you should bring some tissues with you so you can wipe/blow your nose whenever you need to.
