Why can't I get rid of my stomach fat?

I'm an extremely healthy, active, fit person. I eat clean and go to the gym daily, in addition to playing hockey and volleyball year round. Nearly every part of my body is toned or at least in-shape, however, I can't seem to slim down my midsection no matter what exercises I do.
Does anybody have any tips? Or any additional exercises beyond simply varieties of crunches/pushups/planks?
