Probably because the doctors asked if you had any conditions. It doesn't matter if you have high functioning or severe autism, its important the doctor taking care of you understands your medical history. There is no reason to be upset about your doctor knowing of your disabilty, or that your mother shared it with them. They all have the best intentions when it comes to your health, especially your mother! They need to know your medications, and any other things that could be affected by substances in your body when they examine you. Autism is not something to be ashamed of.

Your mom told them because they need to know. You're only hurting yourself by keeping secrets about your health from your doctor. They need to know these things so they know how best to treat you when something is wrong.
It would make it easier for them to interact with you in a way you would be comfortable with because they would know in advance and wouldn't do things to bother you.

I have high functioning autism too and I think my parents and previous caregivers have made it known to all my doctors to make it easier. I thought they wouldn't need to know since I seem so normal and I can do a lot. But it's actually because we process things differently, communication can be different and our brains are different. I know for me personally, it's hard to take a lot in and process all of it. It affects communication, learning, the social and relationships area at least somewhat difficult. Them knowing can make them be able to talk to you better. They can understand more.
Well, autism is such a broad issue, I know some people communicate in different ways or interpret in different ways. Some people are on medication that the doctors should know about. I really don't see the need to tell them you have autism if you can communicate just fine. I am sure she was just really worried and wanted the best care for you.
Yeah, she was out of line to reveal that to the ER doctors. Tell your mom your feelings so she knows not to do it again. Even better don't involve her in your medical visits.
But really was there any actual harm done? I say no harm/no foul.No she should tell them, there may be a medication people with autism shouldn't take. Always tell doctors of your medical history's other can help you as much as possible
I mean they're not going to judge you they are doctors and I think it was right for your mom to say that
basically what has autism to do with a car accident? what's the connection between these 2 things?
Yes, she was. She violated your doctor-patient privilege. That should've been for you to say.
they do need to know your medical history
