So the glutes/hips, the muscles that make up the butt is the most essential part of the body when conducting any athletic activity or even any activity at all. You use them to walk, run, sprint, jump, squat, deadlift, etc. They are the origin of power throughout the upper body just as they are for the lower body, so much so that they're even active during a bench press if you're bench pressing correctly. Unless your body is disproportionate, the glutes are the biggest muscle group in the body.
The bigger and stronger the glutes are, the bigger and stronger the rest of the body is.
