What's your thoughts on the "husband stitch"?

The "husband stitch"(also known as the "husband's stitch", "daddy stitch" , "husband's knot", or "vaginal tuck", is a procedure in which 1 or more sutures than necessary are used to repair a womans perineum after it has been torn or cut during childbirth. The ONLY reason for this "husband stitch" is to attempt to make the vagina "tighter" after child birth for the mans sexual pleasure. There is no evidence of it actually working. Adding another stitch or so the the entrance of the vagina does NOT make the vaginal walk muscles tighter, it simply makes the vaginal opening smaller. This stitch is often given without consent of the patient, with the consent of the man with the patient, or when the patient can not give consent to do so. Many women who have had this "husband stitch" experience extreme discomfort and pain that lasts until the stitch is reversed or it rips again during their next childbirth. It has also been reported than many women who have recieved this stitch experience extreme pain during sexual intercourse because of it.

I'd never even heard of such a thing, until now. If some quack, asshole doctor suggested such a thing to me, I would be pissed, and not shy about letting him know.

Of course I wouldn't want my wife/girlfriend to undergo some painful & unnecessary procedure simply for "my benefit". If it's not necessary for health reasons, then don't fucking do it!

It’s an old thing they did once sometimes. It’s not a separate procedure.

Stitches are often required after childbirth. The stitch referred to was an attempt to make things not just back together, but perhaps even marginally tighter than before.

@0112358 Yeah, I know about stitching due to tearing, but I was never aware that they actually offered to throw in an "extra" one, just to tighten things up.

I am aware of it and read on it. The majority of stories I have read about this goes along with genital mutilation as well as packing the vagina with whatever is accessible. I have even watched a video of a woman trying to have a baby who has been stitched and it was hard to watch. To my knowledge this primarily occurs in Africa, Somalia and the Middle East.

Just reading the words "husband stitch" fills me with a jolt of anger. I think that any husband who consents to it is disgusting and not doing his job as a husband (which is to prioritize his wife's interests above his own).

It’s something I heard about happening in the past back when my kids were born. Even way back when it happened I don’t think anyone consulted the husband. The people I’ve heard where it was done the doctor just took it upon themselves to do it then cheerfully told one or both.

The only person who I ever heard claim to have discussed it beforehand was a woman who asked for it.

It still happens, not nearly as often but it does still happen. And there have been cases where the doctor has asked the man present because the patient couldn't answer.

I think that any guy that would ask for that is a sociopath. Tight is nice but dehumanizing someone into a "tight hole" is disgusting, I don't get disgusted by much but cruelty and lack of compassion are things I despise.

I always thought it was given for medical reasons so the women can heal quickly. I am not aware that it’s done for husband pleasure.

The perineum does require stitching if it tears or rips of course, but the husband stitch isn't that. The husband stitch is an extra stitch or so to make the vaginal opening "tighter". Completely unnecessary and does not help the woman in anyway shape or form.
