Are you aware that the FDA has EXTENDED EXPIRATION DATES on COVID-19 home TEST KITS?

In the United States, if you have an At-Home COVID-19 test kit, in many cases, the expiration date printed on the box has been extended by the FDA. This applies to several kit manufacturers, not just the one shown.

To find the actual expiration date, go to this FDA website

At the bottom of the webpage, find the manufacturer of your test kit (there are several approved by the FDA) and click on "See link for updated expiration date".

For example, if you have a QuickVue test kit, the website shows this:

and the link takes you to a table that looks like this:

Find the LOT Number on the test kit box and find the printed expiration date (should match what's on your box) and the new expiration date, which is typically 4 months later.

Here's an example of what's printed on the box and what the new handwritten EXTended expiration date is:

IMPORTANT: It's best to not use a test kit after its extended date, but now you have an extra few months to use it.

My dad got test kits when we vacationed in Mexico but my mom told him not to open them cause if we test ourselves and are found to be positive by the Mexican staff, they might report us and house us in a detention centre and make us wait weeks in quarantine before we’re allowed to fly back to Canada.

I wasn't aware but as long as it's been validated I can't see an issue. It's not unusual for reagents/test kit to be given a generic shelf life and then have it modified later.

I am pretty much all over Covid. I got the test kits because the government was giving them out for free but I probably won;t use them.

There was and still is a lot of money involved in covid, that's why media outlets like CNN were sponsored by Pfizer. I think its squeezing the last drop out of the lemon in terms of money.
