Most of the people I hangout with are fitness instructors or personal trainers and we all compete with another, but I don't think we do it on purpose. I use to run marathons and we use to see who made the best time. I was some where in the middle, but I ran more marathons more often then the rest of the people. when ever I date a guy it important that they are some what athletic even if it doesn't mean going to the gym. you can be athletic without going to the gym, but I pay attention to their eating habits more then anything else.
Well, I'm a fitness enthusiast - link - and have been a personal trainer, instructor, and nutrition/wellness counselor. While I notice if a person is out of shape or not, I don't find I'm specifically gauging their level of fitness.

I do even though I am just a "civilian" ha. For me I normally just label people as in 'shape' or not in 'shape' although you can't always tell that just from looks. Unfortunately, I haven't had a friend yet that actually liked to work out. Maybe I'll find someone in the strength center I go to one of these days.
Go for it!
lol. Good luck, you know how gyms are, unwritten rule against approaching...
No, I'll notice if someone is exceptionally out of shape (or pumped up) but overall I hardly care. I pay more attention to the way they talk.

Hm, I notice whether someone decides to take the stairs or the elevator. Also, if they are taking the stairs, whether they get out of breath or not. But I'm nowhere near fit or obsessed with fitness; I guess I pay attention to it because I always take the stairs as long as it isn't five floors or higher, so I think it's interesting when people take the elevator when they are only going up one or two levels.
I never really thought about it. It doesn't factor in for me on a first impression, but maybe later if I wanted to go out running or swimming or something and they couldn't keep up, I'd make a note of it. That way I can plan more fitting activities with that person.
No. I judge their appearance, not their fitness level, unless it becomes obvious in some way that its deficient.
For the record, my own gym work is probably 80% based on performance goals not appearance.
More so now that I'm much better shape than I ever have been (thx, P90X).
Yes and im not even a fitness instructor.
Lol, you don't have to be one!
i'll notice if he's cute or not and how they talk.
It has never crossed my mind :P
