Enquiring minds want to know
What is the best beer you've ever tasted?
Enquiring minds want to know
I'm pretty fond of Guinness, but it's a wee bit difficult to find a good pint in these parts. Not the same when it's not on tap.
Stella Artois is great in the summer heat, as is Blue Moon with an orange slice.
I've never found it here in the states, but there's one called Meteor, brewed in Alsace, France that I thought was particularly tasty. Light and highly carbonated, fantastic on a hot day. Dirt cheap too.
Hopefully you're just looking for new ones to try, because there will never be a unanimous "best beer ever". It's way too subjective.
There could be a best beer ever ... you won't know unless youve tried them all =)

Belgian 'Trapist' beers
is that a brand name or style ?
'Trappists' are Catholic monks who provide in their living by brewing beer. Hence the name 'trappist'.
'Trapists' are Catholic monks who provide in their living by brewing beer in their abbey. They have done so or centuries. Hence the name 'trapist beer'.
The best one is said to come from the Westvleteren abbey: link . Demand is bigger than production and one has to buy it in the abbey. Other (good trapist beers are sold through retail shops and available in cafees. (some are even exported in limited quantities.
I quote from their site: "Westvleteren Trappist is sold only to individual customers. Every customer agrees not to re-sell the beer to any third party."
Sounds exclusive =)
Demand is bigger than production...
and price ?
From their site.
Our beer is sold by the crate, with 24 bottles per crate. From the 1st of July 2011 on, the beer prices (excluding the deposit for the crate and the bottles) are :
Trappist Westvleteren Blond (5,8 vol.% ABV) 30,00 euros
Trappist Westvleteren 8 (dark) (8 vol.% ABV) 34,00 euro
Trappist Westvleteren 12 (dark) (10,2 vol.% ABV) 39,00 euro
Deposit for empty bottles and crate: 12 euros (9.60 euro for the crate plus 0.10 euro per bottle).
(but you have to make an appointment)
That sounds reasonable .. the Trappists have an interesting history.
It's too bad they don't export =(
Hmmm ... maybe I can adopt this yeast =)
Thank you very much !
I am so glad that you asked me...It would be the be that I am consuming right now.

There are ton of microbreweries where I am and my favorite is one called Stone Hammer. Their dark ale is the best beer I have tasted.
you must be in Ontario =)
Yes the micro guys in Ontario put out some great products. Ever tried Formosa? Superior?
Cremore Cream ale .. another amazing brew on tap. Sadly I don't know any of the dark ales ...
I like Okanagan Springs 1516 lager. It's a British Columbia brew.
Yes ^5 ... the pale ale isexcellent too =)
*shakes head solemnly*
I don't like pale ale personally
It;s an acquired taste.. I take it your more of a lager guy ?
Yessir I am.
I had this Okanagan Springs Summer Weizen a couple times lately too. It's good too, has a slight apricot note.
Is that a wheat beer ?
Hmm never had it but then I'm not keen on wheat beers. I always get a sweet gummy aftertaste .
I like the lighter blond pilseners and ales .. bottling a batch of Aussie bitter made from Monashee water as we speak =)
omg are you srs that sounds real good
The last batch (a pilsener) came on strong; Monashee is very similar to the tradiional soft Czech water used in brewing =) From good water comes good beer ..
