What kind of compliments mean more to you: Compliments about your looks, your personality or your job performance?

Me: I've gotten compliments about all three lately.. But the two that meant the most to me were both on the job.. One from a 16 year old girl that was leaving to go back to school and asked if I'd miss her and when I asked if she'd miss me, she said of course, to which I jokingly said "liar" . She said really, she told her mom all about me and how she couldn't be more in aww of me... I must say that really touched me. (I don't think my own kids would say that 🙄 LOL) And the other was from a male Co worker that came up to me and said the speed and quality of my work was very impressive and I'm an awesome employee...

Personality and job performance. I get complimented on all 3 fairly often, to be honest. Most people tell me that I'm kind, sweet and empathetic. And my teachers and other family members, when they trust me with a work, they often say this: "I knew you were the right person for this job" or "I knew you'd be awesome at this. I did the right thing by choosing you to do this task." I get complimented on my looks by some weird, creepy people and my mom sometimes so I don't know if its true lol. But my mom often tells me that my eyes and my hair are my best features.

Looks fade, I'm just 16, so my face may change a little over time.
Job perf- I give my best at anything I do. So getting complimented on something I poured my heart and soul would be an amazing feeling
Personality- I believe that a person's personality may change a bit over time. Some people may change for the better and some for the worse. I like it when people compliment me on my personality because I know that I'm being friendly to them. I always try to be friendly to everyone, because you never know what the other person is going through

Nowadays, and as I get older, I love getting compliments on my job performance; it makes me feel appreciated and wanted 😊
Most companies and managers DO NOT give praise and reward employees they like deserve... or worse, do so to the wrong people. As a result, it makes those of us that do our jobs feel demoralized, or seek employment elsewhere.

Personality is a close second: having people compliment me on my traits makes me happy that people see past superficial features and value me.

Hmmm... Interesting question.

I wouldn't appreciate either one. A woman complimenting my looks is both lying dead to my face AND insulting my intelligence! And someone complimenting my job performance means nothing to me because I'm very self-aware of how good or bad of a job I'm doing, so to me, it's like stating the obvious.

Of the two, I think complimenting my job performance would annoy me less, so I'll vote for that one. But guys in general don't tend to ever get compliments, anyway. It's like a once-a-year thing or less for men. And in my lifetime, I've gotten so few, I can't even remember the last one I've gotten. Outside of one GAG'ers friend (and possibly also her), the last compliment I've gotten was in 2018, I think. A 5'9", 19 year old girl called me "hot." Yes, I stated her age for a reason.

I have gotten so few compliments in my life as a man that I can literally only remember a few about my looks. But I think I would prefer ones about my quirky self, rather than looks, which I am fine with and don't really need to hear about, or work, which is mostly whatever.
My most cherished memory of a compliment was from early 2018, when a girl I was working with and laughed around with told me I had a good sounding laugh. It really meant something since laughing loudly is a big part of my personality.

Job performance by a country mile. Good work ethic says a lot about a person. Moreover, people can lie to you about being handsome/beautiful or that you're a nice guy/girl because those are more subjective. But work performance is a lot harder to bullshit somebody about because it's based on things like numbers and schedules and output which everybody can see and record. It's more concrete. So when somebody tells you you're doing a good job at work, they're usually not bullshitting you. It's based on something they can see clearly.

Right now I'd be especially grateful for any compliment about my job performance. I just became a baker and I've got frantic nerves that make me second guess myself. Thankfully my overseers say I'm doing excellent for just starting (even despite all the mistakes I make).

The best kind of compliment, is one that is a spur of the moment. For example, when I'm talking to my fiance, and I see hear smile, and I hear her laugh. I'm suddenly inspired to tell her how I can't imagine my life without her. Then I tell her, "you have no idea how special you are to me. How precious." I believe that kind of spontaneity is more genuine, more real.

Ones about how I am as a person, but sensible ones, not blowing smoke type, where the person is being genuine.

work wise, I able to work out myself if I’ve done a good job or if team has. I rarely want or expect praise for doing what I am paid for, hypocritically I will however praise, compliment individual team members or the entire team if they did a really good job.

linked to the latter I also based this years bonus’s heavily on where someone went that extra bit etc to get a task sorted or came up with a wow type of solution, yes it’s their job but it’s those extra bits that make it so more important.

looks, nah ain’t happening lol.

having typed this I sort of prefer it by proxy, being told I have a great group of teams or how they work well together, or how nice my daughter is.

and I know I prefer to hear something like "you've been of great help to me" rather than "you're are this great" or something like that... I do not dislike compliments but I do not prefer to hear praise or stuff like that

I voted C but not because of employment performance. I was thinking of compliments for any job well done - vocals, musicianship or musical arrangement; appreciation for work as volunteer Board President of a nonprofit; starting up and chairing a committee; good grades in college courses or kudos from professors; opinion or essay on social media; newspaper op-ed; a well designed and executed garden project; ... stuff like that.

I just started a new job, bow i am a team leader in a yruck factory (gear box) section so most compliments am getting us work related. Othere wise i always say: thank you, and say the same back but with dear close people to me compliments me i just get extra 🥰
