"All jokes have truth to them.", True or false?

So many people claim that 'all jokes are based on truth', and I can see the many examples this could be true. I personally don't believe in this statement, but I'm interested in what some of you have to say.

I think "all" is an exaggeration, but I think MOST jokes have a grain of truth to them, yes.

The majority of humor is really us laughing at a situation that would otherwise make us feel bad or sad. Most jokes have something negative happening to at least one of the subjects of the joke, and we laugh at their pain or embarrassment.

Also, in order for humor to work, it has to be relate-able. You have to have either seen/heard of that happening to someone, or you have to be able to put yourself in their shoes, so the joke has to touch on something that has some truth to it.

I've always asked myself the same question and this is what I thought of it and which makes sense. Jokes that are obvious in nature are definitely just jokes as they are. But these days, sarcastic jokes are never really funny and always speak the truth. It basically is that a person is insulting or testing you but is basically making you a fool or covering it up by saying that 'oh its just a joke silly'.

These are usually personal questions and aren't asked in normal convo's, but rather they wanna see how you react to it but covering it up as a joke. Hope this made sense.

Not necessarily. Some people are jokesters and love to joke around. It's better to think it's half he truth rather than full truth.

half truth means deception, then its considerd a lie, jokes never consider a lie for the most part and its been said that 70% of most jokes are true, not 50% according to reachers so you can say , funny jokes are half truth, no technichally not its 70% but i will agree with you ther is half truth jokes and ther is lie jokes , but you can't say all jokes are half true wich is not, some time if a people tell what "exactly" funny happen to their friend thats what incredibly funny.

'There is truth in every joke' is something I do believe. Jokes can thinly veil your true thoughts on the matter, be it consciously or subconsciously. They can also help you to illicit a response on a specific topic made in jest. Consider it a conversational decoy to lure out others' truths.

A grain of truth is the root of most humor.

Imagine the Pope rapping next to chrome rims smoking a blunt with big booty church girls grinding on him. There is no truth to that whatsoever, but some people would find it funny.

Not all jokes, but I think the best comedy is that which criticizes real things. But with that said, maybe at some very basic level of human behavior all comedy touches on that notion? Maybe even in slapstick, when someone slips and falls on a banana peel, it's funny because it speaks to your soul about human frailty. Or maybe it's the cartoon sound effects, who knows.

False. You're talking about "observational humour", which is just one many kinds of comedy. Some jokes are based on simple wordplay, others on stupidity or even physical violence (3 Stooges), etc.

Some are and some are not , its mostly the person that jokes and the person that the joke goes to that will change the meaning of it , mostly jokes are for fun .

The jokes wouldn't be funny if there weren't a kernel of truth to them. That's why we laugh at blond jokes, for example.
