I confessed my feelings, and haven't heard back yet?

I confessed my feelings to my guy friend through an email. I know that's not a great way to do it, but I couldn't do it in person for other reasons.
He called me right after I pushed send and left a voicemail. Then I called him back a little later and he hasn't gotten back to me, I know it's a lot to take in but it's driving me a little crazy, I want to know... whatever he says is ok, I just want to know... why do you think he hasn't gotten back to me?
