How do I tell my boyfriend I don't want to go to prom with him?

I've been dating my boyfriend for over two years now. Since he didn't graduate the first time through grade 12, I've gone to two graduation proms with him already. This year is my prom and he's fully convinced that we're going together again. However, my boyfriend really doesn't get along with my friends; he's done everything from threaten to kill them to throwing things at them in the street. If I take him to prom with me, we will be complete loners since all his friends graduated last year and my friends are terrified of him. I want to go with my best guy friend that I've known for over six years because I know we'll have a great time together with our friends! However, my boyfriend gets jealous really easily and I know he will be very angry if I suggest me going with someone else. I love him, but I can't have his temper and jealousy ruin my prom for me... Now is the question, how do I tell him I want to go to from with my friend instead of him?

If you're into your boyfriend on a level of love I can tell you that what other people think (yes even those friends you have) it won't matter. Love is Love.

Now if you're debating on being with him or not I can assure you he will be deeply hurt if you even mention going with another guy. If you try to hide that you went with another guy and he finds out your relationship is probably over there too.

Judging character by his actions I would say you could be better off because of his temper. Threatening to literally kill someone isn't a joke. Neither is throwing things at your friends.

It's a rock and a hard place for you dear.

Your choices are:

1. Do some soul searching and see if you see long term plans with this guy.

or

2. Tell him your going with your friends to spend some time with them and you will go on a date with him AFTER prom. BUT do not become overly friendly with other guys since he is the jealous type. You know how gossip goes in HS... starts as a whisper and turns into flames.

Whatever your choice is I hope it's the right one for you.
