How to help my boyfriend with depression who has no motivation to do anything? (Page 2)

Question

My boyfriend has pretty severe depression which was well managed with medication, but now he’s hit a low point again.

He is currently unemployed, and has no motivation to do anything. The only time he leaves his house is to come see me, which is slowly becoming more infrequent. He has no routine. He goes to bed at 4am and wakes up at midday, and then naps again in the afternoon. He avoids staying kempt. He dresses messily and avoids shaving etc.

It’s really hard to watch him like this. I want to help him but I don’t know how? I think applying for jobs and working again will really help him but he can’t find the energy to do anything anymore. Help please?

Same with me recurrent major depression. What I want from my loving one when I am depressed for days. My opinion is that you must take care your boyfriend, talk to him politely, hug him and show that you are always with him.

I think he has seen a great failure... it usually takes a lot of time... be patient.. There is no medicine to motivation but exercise daily may help and meditation also

a routine will definitely help. like a more firm bedtime, and a morning routine.  would it be possible to take a weekend and go on a short vacation to kind of hit the reset button?

Tell him he needs to go see a psychiatrist. Make him go. Threaten to leave him whatever you have to do. Sometimes it takes someone pushing you. And sometimes they need to be mean about it.

The best advice I can give you is walk away I spent 10 years married to a woman that was just like this and living with it in my life was exhausting.
