My longest was with an exchange student. So she came here, being Russian and living in Italy. We fell in love and to this day she was probably the most jaw dropping girlfriend that I had. She obviously had to leave after the semester was over, but she stayed over the summer and I also went 1 month to Italy. After that we dated 1 and a half years and saw each other like 8 times. We broke up because she wanted to move to Japan and I started working harder, so we just grew apart.
Long distance is incredibly hard, you can spend 8 hours a day on a video call and it still feels less than a 30 min coffee in the afternoon irl. To make it work you need 3 things:
Trust, lots of it. If you're not someone that can trust you won't be able to bear with it.
Meeting irl as often as it's viable. You need the irl contact to ground you and give you context about the relationship you're in
And you need to have a goal to move in together / same city. Without that goal you will feel fatigated and aimless in your relationship
Met my husband here over 6 years. ago. He answered one of my questions. We just chit chat a bit. We exchanged phone numbers. Didn’t think much. No pictures. Text a bit.
summer comes. I wanted/needed a vacation. He was going to a state for something. I decided to go there since I haven’t been forever… we met to hang out… still haven’t seen my picture.
we had a good time hanging out, exploring that city.
I came home. He was still at his relative. We just chit chat here and there.
next month I decided to go visit since he has two bedrooms.
got there, all well… dinner out. Next morning, I fell and broke my foot into pieces. He became my care taker for over a week. I couldn’t return to work for 3 months. He came help me from time to time. We started to date LD - 9 hrs drive or 1 1/2 hr flight. 6 years. later we just got married 6 months ago.
we broke up for one yr. Because of some very important issues. We had to learn to resolve some things and rebuild trust and love.
things must have.
1. money - to see each other every 3-4 weeks
2. time
3. patients
4. trust, understanding, love, … etc…
5. end goal… one have to move.
