How to comfort my boyfriend (him and his family strongly suspect that his mother has dementia and I saw him bawling his eyes out for the first time) ?

My boyfriend has an older mom she had him at 40 years old and she is now 65 she has had a bad memory for a while now it has not been until recently that they have been so certain that she has dementia. She’s supposed to have an appointment today for that. I gave my boyfriend a hug, held his hand, told him to be strong that I’ll pray, love him forever, and if he needs me I’ll leave work early for him. But other than that I am not sure how to make him feel better. I was crying last night because I felt so heartbroken for him we’ve been together for almost two years but I’ve never seen him ball his eyes out like this. I have cried many times in front of him but compared to this I realized how stupid I was. She has been a nurse for 23+ years he was crying because she has given so much and doesn’t deserve this he even said that he would give a part of his brain for her if he could I tried to tell him that it could just be work overload but it seems like he was certain.
